Like a month ago, all I had was my Specialized Sirrus A1 Hybrid bike from 2002 (silver). Then I went to Italy and got a DeRosa racing bike and brought it home last Monday. And today, I finally got my Bike Friday folding bike- it's also a road bike. So I'm sitting here in my little Jr. bedroom apartment with all these bikes sitting around me... I'm literally in shock.

I have to do a lot of work on some seminars I'm putting together, so I have very little time to deal with these bikes, but next week.... I'm going to lose my mind with riding all three of these bikes all over the city. I am in such a state of euphoria... I picked up my bike from Yojimbo's and the cab driver was so excited for me. She said I was beyond lucky- that I was blessed. And dang it, I'm feeling like I must have just read through a lost book of the bible or something. I just can't believe how happy I am right now! And I may have found a riding partner too that likes to get up at 4am and do the early morning rides, so I will not be riding alone anymore, AND this other guy I hadn't run into in a long time walked into my indoor cycling class on Sunday and said he wanted to ride sometime with me. So I'm feeling like quadriple bliss right now.

I'm almost scared. When so many things are going so right as of now, something is bound to go wrong....

Just wanted to share with some folks who understand what I'm talking about.

Hey... post some pictures of those bikes! Or have you already and I missed it? BTW, compatible riding partners are rare, priceless and probably should be the most cherished of all elements of cycling. It's good to hear you're having good luck picking up a few.

Hey, I want to see pictures too, especially of the BF.

The funny thing for me is that life itself will have all sorts of ups and downs, disasters and successes, boredom and euphoria, but bicycle riding remains wonderful. As long as I can ride enough, it's a fixed positive as the rest swings and spins.

Same here. Throughout my life, cycling has been the one thing that has remained a constant. I have always had a bike. I have always ridden a bike. About ten years ago while I was visiting Michigan for a new job and in the prcoess of moving out of Grand Forks, ND all my belongings succumbed to the flood and fire when the Red River overflowed its banks and I lost pretty much everything. I was just a poor college student back then and most of my meager belongings weren't even insured. However, I had taken my bike along with a week's worth of clothes in a suitcase and I rebuilt my life from that.

Ah yes... I'm about to start looking around for insurance against theft and loss. Does anyone know of a good insurance program I can get for my bikes?

My bikes are covered as part of a rider (no pun intended) on my homeowner's insurance. When I was renting, they were covered under renter's insurance. I think bikes up to a particular value are covered by default under homeowner's/renter's insurance but you might have exceeded that number so you might have to do a rider as well. Check with your insurance agent.

As I do rent, can I get homeowner's insurance?

Well, you would get renter's insurance which is an equivalent. It doesn't need to cover the same exact things because the property management is of course under a different entity. But as far as your belongings the policy should be pretty much the same.

Yes, Koffee, definitely get renter's insurance. Warning, though: ask many questions about deductables, replacement costs, what types of items are covered if stolen from different places; for example, at work, from a friend's car, or a friend's apartment which doesn't have insurance. All good questions which, unfortunately, I forgot to ask 5 years ago, as my bike was stolen from a friend's camper. Be savy; ask questions. Enjoy all of the moments, good or bad!

Only 3 bikes?!

I have 3 bikes, cruiser, road Fuji, and Mt bike.
I'll be getting a new Merckx bike in a few weeks. :)
My friends who are brothers each have 5 bikes, a few single gears, some fixies, road bike etc...oh and since you have more than a few bikes, it is now called the "Bike Room", not "Jr Bedroom" anymore! LOL!:D

BTW, I was reading on Cycling news something about an Italian cyclists new team bike (I forget who it was), ANYHOW, it said he lost 70 bikes...yes SEVENTY BIKES in a fire in his home this past year!!!

Oh Man! If your gonna get a Derosa you may as well do it in style. Did you get to ride it in Italy? What frame is it?

Have you figured out what you saved by buying the DeRosa in Italy versus the US? I'd almost bet it would come close to paying for the trip.

I remember the amount of money I saved when I bought my Sidis (a little more than 50% off US prices) in Italy. I would guess that if we scaled that to the pricetag of a DeRosa here in the US that we're talking a substantial amount of money. Of course, my experience was when the dollar was quite a bit stronger.
