Northern California - What would you do if you were in the Pollock Pines area and had a cyclocross bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm going on our schools Sly Park (http://www.scoe.net/slypark/) trip next week. I'll have some free time. And my Surly Crosscheck.
Any ideas?

Mormon Emigrant Trail? Probably anything MTB'able you could do on the cross bike + some portaging.

If you can get further up 50 to the Eldorado National Forest, there should be a lot of Forest Service dirt roads you can ride on. I like the area around Ice House Reservoir.

The contrast in these two experiences of the same place is quite interesting.
I think I missed out on that trip because the bus was broken and the school district was too cheap/poor to fix it.

Going up the Mormon Immigrant Trail road, away from the reservoir, there is a paved road that goes off to the right. I don't remember what the road sign says (google maps says it's Ferrari Mill Rd, but i don't think thats what the sign says)... anyway, there are some trails that are accessible down that road, and I think they are legal for bikes, although I'm not sure of it.

Now, what if I decided on Friday to ride back to Folsom and catch light rail home?
What's the best route?
Sly Park road?

If it were me, I'd do something like this...

Be aware that Sly Park Rd is narrow and winding, and Pleasant Valley Rd, while not as crooked, is also fairly narrow.

I came home on the bus. I had some time constraints - I was needed at Sly Park until a certain time and needed to be home at a certain time as well.
I didn't get to do much riding in the end because they kept me pretty busy. But it was fun.
