Visit to LBS, and have now ridden the following:
Kona Dew
Giant Transend
Trek 7100
I wanted to ride a Kona Smoke, but couldnt find one in town
I'm current 315#, but wont be for long. I want to use it primarily for commuting, but my current commute is on the MUP's and would definitely like to do the occasional not crazy off-roading. I am also considering a Sprint Tri in June, but the idea of being able to spend time not on the road is appealing to me with a move to Northern Michigan or similar area likely in July.
I liked the feel of each in a different way. I liked how the Transend was loaded for commuting. I loved how quick the Dew felt, my fat ass felt fast on that sucker. And the 7100 reminded me a lot of my own 800.
Due to the economic slowdown, I can get all these bikes for about the same price (around $500 or less), some are 09, some are 08.
They had a Dew with the disc brakes as well, but said I might be able to get that one for my price range, because things have been pretty slow.
Owners of these bikes or similar who could provide input would be greatly appreciated. Also, never had discs on a bike, so would like to know about that too. Didn't ride it because the floor model wasnt my size.
