Road Cycling - If you ride or commute at night, this would be a good addition..

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I ride quite a bit at night.. For those of you who commute or like to ride at night, I came up with a super lightweight helmet light that serves a dual purpose. I use a Princeton Tec Aurora Headlamp with a velcro looped strap that can work as a backup light in a pinch and as a flashing strobe light to let other see you better. My night rides have been much more enjoyable using this light, because when you look at someone with it in strobe mode they actually see you.. I now use an ARC Hid handlebar light which is very bright but without the flashing helmet light, people would still not see me very well at stop signs. The best part of the light is its weight, with batteries and strap about 3 ounces total weight. Here is a pic for all interested.. You just need the PT Aurora and 12-18 inches of velcro with a loop and you are ready to go.. This headlamp seems to work best because it has about 90 degree of rotation which means it is very flexible of where you can point the light.

There's someone here who uses a HID on the bar plus another HID on the helmet. If you ever fly over NYC and you see this glow moving around traffic in the streets, it's him...
That's a good idea!
I have been looking for a "Flashlight" to take on my 3 day tour this summer. I think that it would be good to have the light do double duty in case I'm caught out in the dusk. I think that I'll try this. Is that light one of those "Wear on you head" lights? Where did you get it?

You can buy them at most camping type stores or REI has them online.. The best part of this light over a traditional headlight is that it is so lightweight. This should be used in addition to a handelbar light. Do not buy the Petzl or other headlamps because they do not have the swivel option like the PT Aurora does. There is a small screw on the side of the light, make sure to tighten a little so the movement stiffens a little.. Once you set it, it will not move at all.. Straight velcro pump straps will work as the fastening device.. This light will run about 40-60 hours on 3 aaa batteries.. You can also find them on ebay, here is the link

I got the same thing in my Christmas stocking this year. It works great for being able to see my computor and what is just in front of my front wheel.
I just put mine around my helmet and let it sit in the front vent a bit. I also have an extra Specialized firefly blinking light that I attach to my helmet so I have more than one blinker letting folks in back know I am there. Both can be removed in a matter of seconds so I don't look like a "bike geek" riding with it on during the day.
