Living Car Free - Lifting a bike ban....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Wayne Houghton, 62, lives in The Californian, next to the mall. On one bright fall afternoon, he was slowly making his way along the mall with the aid of a walker.
"How long it's been? Forty-four years?" Houghton says. "It's time for a change. I don't mind sharing with bikes."

I've never been to Fresno's mall, or even to Fresno for that matter, but I agree with the people who have concerns about allowing bicycles on the pedestrian mall. Bicycles and pedestrians aren't a great mix. Bikes belong on the road. :D

If you go at a sensible speed, a mall is no big deal. Ours is buses, bikes and pedestrians. The buses go about 10mph through there. I go about 10mph and keep my hands on the brakes. Trying to go a lot faster is dangerous and besides, you're just not going to hit the lights. (I'm not sure what the lights are timed for, but it isn't a bus, it isn't a bike and it isn't a pedestrian)
