I got my new ultegra Sti shifters today and i know the front one is double or triple but it seems to be preset for a double, how do i make it work for a triple. I have not installed it yet but it only seems to click once each way.

There's nothing to set. There are actually four shift positions. As a double I set it up to get two for each chainring. As a triple you get one for the granny, two for the middle and one for the big ring.

Now that you've fiddled with it, be sure that you push the small shift lever several times to get it back to the right position before you try to install the shift cable.
