Road Cycling - American Vs. Italian

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. And I got called out by showing the model "Ultegra" on my hubs in a thread asking what a chain hanger was.
Seriously, nice bike and car. Are they much faster than the 355's??? I've only ridden in a 348TB and a 355. My ex-boss changed hi-end cars like I do underwear.

That's ok, but what do you find ugly about the bike. The problem is that I am 6-'7", the last bike I had looked like it was made for Shac. So I wanted a compact frame.

To each their own. I don't care much for it either.
What throws me off is the slanting top tube and how high the levers are mounted on the bars. That and the amount of seat post visible kinda gives it a weird geometry.
Lots of people may find my bike (and me) ugly too.

How do you fit in the car???
Most exotics have ample leg room when the seat is pushed all the way back. All the Porsches I have owned did too.
The manfactures know that a lot of Pro Athletes are large people, and pro athletes like bling bling cars.

The only thing that scratches that car is bug's at 150mph. I always obay traffic laws.

There is always plenty of room to drive a Ferrari. I fit better in this car than anything else I have in my stable.

This car is very fast, it is a special Modena. This car has an extra 25 hp. A freind of mine does all the engine work for Ferrari of Huston's race team, and we added some trick stuff to the motor. Also the car has track set up, with a very quick turn in, not for the faint of heart.

Am I weird for having been drawn to the drill press first? I guess I'm neither a huge fan of compact geometry or Ferraris. Regardless, both bike and car are fine machines and I definately wouldn't kick either one out of my garage.

I remember seeing a picture in an old issue of MountainBike Action about a dozen years ago showing a couple of titanium bikes mounted on a special car rack attached to a Testarossa. That was pretty sweet. ;)

To each their own... ride what feels and fits right.
However, since you asked. I too second a traditional geometry and I'd deck it out with Campy to match the Italian flare.
If you want to pay homage to its American ancestry then swap the Campy crank with FSA Carbon Teams and the brakes with Zero Gravity (formerly known as Cat Claws). BTW, it's probably not surprising to find out that this is what I'm looking to do when I upgrade my roadbike. ;)
P.S. Yes, I know FSA cranks aren't made in the US but the company is at least based here. :)

OK. Here is how you determine which you like best.
Imagine that the bike falls over and hits the car. You run over. Which do you look at for damage first? There is the winner.

Yeah but that's no contest since the bike would probably be less damaged than the car. It is afterall a Seven. ;) Then again what actually incurs damage and what you look at first has little bearing on one another I suppose.

ofcourse, 7 is my favorite manuf.....

well it's kind of the sloping top tube and that loooooooooong head tube with the brake hoods pointing up and out like spiders fangs looking to strike.
also the saddle seems a little low for that setup to work well.
I'm not a firm believer in sloping geometry for large frame sizes. i believe they're weaker and don't provide any benefit to the rider.
For large guys I would always recommend a fat tubed bike which is stronger and therefore safer.

Should have gone with Serotta. Rather than paying top dollar for a bike where you get a tape measure fitting, you could have had a fitting that took an hour and a half with customizing for your riding style. They would build you a bike on a fitting cycle. Tubes hand selected for your weight and height.
Seven's a Porsche
Serotta's a Ferarri.
A Mondonico foco frame would look nice next to that car.

They are not set up high on the drops, the bar is tilted up. I tilted the bar up for the trainer.

My first bike was a Serotta, and the fit was off. It was not the bike, it was the tech that was fitting me. He just missed, I rode the bike for about four years, and was never really the happy with the fit. So I gambled on the seven fit, and it worked out much better.

You mentioned in an earlier reply to someone that you might get another bike, and you also have some concern about being fitted. I'm 5'1" and I am on the opposite end of your height. Fortunately, for me I live in an area where I bought my bike from a person who competed in the Tour de France, and who owns a bike store. He currently rides a Time bicycle (which was given to him), carbon fiber everywhere on it, price. . . a lot. He fit my small frame and short height perfectly. Any questions on bicycles, training etc., this man can answer. He is an encyclopedia of information, and has been great help to me. Apparently, you have the $$$$$, and if you're interested in purchasing a new bike, I can give you the information of his store. The only drawback is that you have to travel to the store. But, it will be worth every penny spent!!!

I love the way the Seven fits, and rides. Opinions may vary on the looks, good or bad, but the fit is perfect. I would love to know how and what store you are talking about.

rj,
The bike shop is located in Marina, California. The name of the store is, "Boyer Sports." Owner is Jonathan Boyer. He is the first American to ride in the Tour de France :) He's been excellent help, and again I'm very fortunate to receive his great knowledge & experience. He has given my spouse and I great advice on what to buy, and what not to buy, and also what to buy in the future when we become better riders. And most of all, he doesn't make us feel stupid like some store salesmen do, when they know you really don't know what you are doing. He knows we are a novice at cycling, and he works with our abilities. It's great working with him.
If you ever want to plan a vacation, you'll love the bay area here, especially for bike riding. Marina is about 6 miles from Monterey and about 8 miles from Carmel. If you're into golf, Carmel just finished the AT & T tournament; beautiful golf courses here. The Marina, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, & Pebble Beach areas are beautiful & wonderful places to ride a bike. Great restaurants too.

I do not know them on a personal level, but I know who they are.
As for your other quote, just keep working. Five years ago, my wife and I were living off of credit, with no way to pay it all off. I started my own business worked about sixty to seventy hours a week for the fist couple years, and now it is paying off.

Nice Car! however I would like to see two Itallian Stallions next to each other. Trade that Seven in for a Colnago c-50 or a De Rosa Cinquata...heck dont even trade it in..you can obviously afford them all. I have a De Rosa w/Campy Record but don't have your car.

I would have loved to have one of those bikes, but at 6-7 even a 62cm frame was not going to work.
I also vote for the traditional geometry on the next one. But, what you got sure looks good.
