Ummm... I would call that a tie.

That plane is going to require about $5M in repairs and inspections before it can fly again - that is - if it passes those inspections.

If you can get me the N number for the plane, I can look up the incident report and find out what the damage was. If the cockpit bulkhead was damaged (and it looks like it might have been), then that plane probably will not fly again.

Dammit, I gotta joke but it would run afoul of the "unknown injuries" rule.

The fuselage of the plane took a lot of damage. There is likely a lot of nonvisible damage as well because most of the metal used is aluminum and aluminum does not like being bent. I personally don't think the plane is salvagable becuase of the possibility of cracks and stress risers in a lot of the structure. However, I'm not an aviation mechanic.

Wait, that's a plane?

I thought it was a Sony laptop.

Nevermind.

Why is everyone so worried about the plane? Won't somebody please think of the pickup truck?!

Oh wait, it's a Ford. Doomed from the beginning.

I've seen planes damaged worse than that return to flight... though not commercial airliners.

Guess it depends on whether the revenue the plane could potentially generate in its remaining lifespan is worth the repair cost.

Or, it could be just skin damage and after reskinning, numerous inspections it's fine. Doesn't sound like much energy involved in the impact (both moving slowly).

"Hey listen, that doesn't look too bad... could we not get the insurance company involved in this? I'm pretty sure that'll just buff right out."
