Introductions - just sayin' hi

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

hi all! i've been googleing bike stuff for a while and have found quite a bit of useful info here and thought i'd join up. i live in portland, oregon, which for those who don't know, is a pretty bike friendly city. i've only been into bikes for less than a year, but once i started i couldn't stop! i ride my bike to work nearly every day and generally all around town for most things. my moods decide which bike i choose on any particular day. lately i've been riding my fuji newest just cause it's winter and i hate cold weather and it has the granny gear. :) in warmer months you'll see me riding a raleigh 3-speed or my tank of a schwinn varsity. i also have an old pile of rust cruiser that i turned into a shining gold beauty. recently my projects have been to convert another bike i have into a mild mountain bike and i'm getting stuff together to build a fixie. haven't ever ridden one, but i thought it'd be fun to try it out.

Enjoy two wheels for a long time and stay in touch with your inner child. (just lose the training wheels) See you on the trails. :thumb:
I have a daughter living in Portland, long way from Kentucky, Do you know of a good bike shop with a selection of used bikes?

yeah there are several fun places to check out. citybikes has been a favorite of mine. they have two locations. one is at se 19th and ankeny. this one has a back room full of used bike parts that you can look through. the other, which has used bikes and frames for sale, is at se 8th and ankeny. both have bike mechanics who can do just about anything you need in the way of repair and maintenance. the community cycling center also sells used bikes and they are at ne 17th and alberta. another is the recyclery at se 9th and madison, which also has a selection of used parts you can buy. and of course there's always craigslist. people post ads all the time for bikes and bike parts. i've bought 3 bikes from there.

Thanks, I will pass this along, to have been in Portland a short time you seem to have explored the city. I have visited once and it is truly a bike friendly city. Again, thanks
