Advocacy & Safety - WTF- Jack Links hates Bikers

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Really in poor taste. Not only do they portray the cyclists as environmentally insensitive and bullying, they use violence as cyclists for humor.
I'm snappin a Slim Jim from now on.

Politically Correct mediocrity, it's what's for dinner.

I would be annoyed, but I watched quite a few of the commercials and thought they were all funny.
You sure you're not shilling for Jack Link's?

The problem with your parody of uptight BF ninnies is that it's too close to the truth! So naturally the message got a little lost.

Um folks, I take this response from the OP to mean his original post was meant as fishing for responses. Which is exactly what he got from some of you nit pickers. He got you guys, hook, line and sinker. Which means he too probably finds the commercial funny.
I had not seen it until I viewd it on youtube and thought it hilarious. I do not read anything into Jack Links advocating for violence against cyclists.
To quote a very funny movie, "Lighten up Frances!"
Perhaps the OP can elaborate as to whether or not I am correct. If not and he does take this seriously then the OP needs to lighten up.

Exactly, I'm all for a good troll but there is nothing in the OP that implies anything other than what was said and sadly, it's a position that isn't too hard to believe someone holds in this day and age.

I don't understand your righteous indignation. The commercial portrays mountain bikers, on a trail, as pranksters who get their comeuppance. Do you object to mountain bikers being painted as pranksters, because if you do, I think you are at odds with many mountain bikers who wouldn't see a problem with being seen as a prankster.
Much more offensive are the BMW and Progressive (?) ads that portray cyclists as losers who are relegated to riding a bike rather than driving in a nice car, if only they had the money or insurance to do so.

I don't understand your righteous indignation.
If you cared more you would. It's people like you who don't take a firm, solid stance that allow for the erosion of our rights as bicyclists.

Well, Mr. holier than thou, what exactly are the rights that are being trampled on by this harmless advertisement?
EvilPhish
11-02-08, 11:11 AM
Well, Mr. holier than thou
Nothing specifically, but obviously, the slope that lies between having the right to ride on the roadway as a vehicle and being relegated strictly to MUPS and specially prepared trails is a slippery one.
Nevermind the fact that if the world around us isn't properly sanitized we'll never be able to really enjoy ourselves and live in a constant state of worry as to who we might be offending with our actions.
Commercials like this are a prime example of the problems plaguing our society and should be eradicated, outlawed and prohibited. They're as dangerous in the wrong minds as a gun is in the wrong hands.

Didn't you watch the commercial? Bicycling is obviously linked to violence against minorities and I don't want to kiss Jessie Jackson's arse anytime soon.

I think it would have been better if bigfoot would have just busted out his "bigfoot" monster truck, ground all three of them to a pulp, then went on a rampage running down hundreds of mup bikers in the near by 'burbs.
That would have had the humor challenged anticage A&S wheenies frothing at the mouth.
If the OP really was trolling for a pileon, all I have to say is bravo.
Masterful troll job.
I would guess I could spend the next few hours reading all his posts, but, there's some beer in my fridge that needs drinking.
BTW, homemade jerky is way better. Especially venison jerky.

That is the beauty of a good troll job. It has to be believable.
There is another board I frequent where a long time poster had everyone convinced he was about to pass away from cancer.

Although trolling is just like any other comedy, you've got people who appreciate subtlety, and then there's the contemporary SNL type folks.

I used to work with a guy who was on the local PD's call list for deer hits. He has quite a few lbs of roadkill deer in the freezer.
