I am an MTB rider moving over to the road and need advice on my first bike. I want a bike that I can ride with the local groups (fairly serious riders / racers), and maybe a century ride a couple of times a year. I want to keep the cost under $3k or my wife will shoot me! As is now I ride a 1985 fully rigid MTB on the road around 100 to 150 miles per week and I want to move away from this ghetto ride.

So far I have it narrowed down to a Trek 5200 or a Specialized Roubaix Comp. I have ridden them both, and slightly prefer the Specialized at this point. They are both carbon frames with Ultegra group, but it is hard to compare the other components because Trek uses their house brand. The Specilaized comes with Mavic Equipe wheels, which I would consider upgrading to the SSC SL's.

Any thoughts on which one of these two bikes I should buy and / or comparisons of the components?

Save a grand and buy a Felt F35! www.feltracing.com

I can't imagine what it's like to have $3k to spend :D
