General Cycling Discussion - How much should I pay for this?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My current commuting bike is possibly going to need some expensive repairs and since I want to get a road bike anyway (currently on dept. store mountain bike) I might rather just get another bike than pay for fixing this.
Anyway based on the info in the post, what's the upper limit of how much I should pay for this?
Once I contact the guy and get some more specs I'll post them as well.

Waaaaay less. Old road bikes are a dime a dozen. That bike is worth maybe $25.00. It was a lower end bike when it was new and consequently has no collector value. The stuff on it is marginal for real riding.

Depends on your market. In Socal, old road bikes aren't a dime a dozen. Decent ones at a realistic price are getting harder to find. Around here, that's a $100+ bike if the seller is realistic.

So there you are: 3 greatly different opinions.
I wouldn't bet on getting very accurate specs from the owner. He doesn't know know the frame size or even the wheel size.
Good luck.

Yeah I was like alright dude
But since I may desperately need a bike just for commuting purposes I'm kind of inclined to go for it
Still if I can't get him down to a reasonable price then eff it
