Hey all,

There is a morning radio show here in Tampa. Turns out one of the guys(FROGGY is his show name) on the show is the biggest idiot and he is bragging about it.

FROGGY was driving to McDonalds Sunday morning for breakfast at about 10:15 a.m. and breakfast stops at 10:30. Well he was driving past a Church and SAW a bicyclist get hit by a car. He saw the guy fly in the air and land on his head.
HE DID NOT EVEN STOP TO SEE IF THE GUY WAS OKAY. He did not stop to see if anyone else was helping the guy. He did not even use his cell phone to call 911.

It is not a stunt or anything because I heard how it unraveled on the show and Froggy did not want them to tell the story, but after it was told was bragging about it.

Supposedly the radio show is doing a vote to see if he should be voted off. Not that I ever Solicit anything, but EVERYONE should vote FROGGY off the show..

What a POS..

There is this button on your radio. It's called the "Vote Froggy off the show" knob; though sometimes it is labeled ON/OFF.

It may take Froggy (and his ilk) a while to get the message, but eventually it will come to them.

Sadly enough, when I voted, this is the result of the poll so far:

"Should Froggy Be Fired???
Yes
22%
No
77%"

Everyone needs to bombard this place with votes, and then clear out their cookies and vote again.

Idiot. I thought they had Good Samaritan laws in Florida. Can't he be charged with his inaction? Is this a Clear Channel radio station? If so, they need to be made aware of this.

Just a publicity stunt to get cyclists all over the country to send people to their website.

These guys are like spoilt children. The best way to deal with them is to not give them any more attention.

As far as I know Good Smaritan laws protect people who help others from being sued if they inervene and help out.

As much as I think this Ahole froggy is a POS and disagree with his actions I would hate to live where a Good Samaritan law enforced a policy of REQUIRING people to help amd prosecuted those that didn't. that would be scary.

I wouldn't mind... I'm sure if you feel like you're going to be in physical harm, there are exceptions, but I think we should be helping people who need it- ie getting hit by a car and left lying on the side of the road. What's wrong with helping someone who's been hurt?

It is a ClearChannel station.. I am pretty sure it is not a publicity stunt but doubt they will really fire the guy. I just think he is a POS as well and everyone should know it..
I usually don't get involved in this kind of stuff, but for the life of me I will never understand why someone would not help another human being..

How's this for scary: you crash with a car and end up unconscious or otherwise unable to help yourself, the cager flees the scene, nobody else stops to see how you are doing.

I think it is naturally everyone's duty to stop and offer help in that situation. If someone needs his duties explained to him by legislators, so be it.

Im in jersey... Good samartin law here means someone can not get sued for assisting someone else.

I am an EMT so there are a couple other things that apply.

1st Unless I have an obligation to that person such as I am a payed EMT on duty (i'm volunteer) I have no legal reason to be forced to stop, although I do have a moral reason.

2nd I don't know about states like florida but in a state such as penn. if you have any sort of makrings on your car such as an EMT sticker, first responder license plate, etc... you are required to stop even if you are not yourself an EMT (ie your driving your husband/wifes car). If you do just pass on by you can be sued for not stopping.

This is what I have been told in my last 2 years teaching EMT's at my local hospital.

On a personal note the guy is a f*&ck head, McDonalds food sucks anyway.

If this is Clear Channel they have a history of this once again it is time to start emailing their sponsers. This kind of trash talk on radio needs to stop

I'm not trying to defend "Froggy" or anything but I too have to question the authenticity of this whole incident. Can anyone confirm that the accident really happened and that "Froggy" was actually there? This does sound a bit like some radio producer's idea of a sick joke to try and stir up some more contraversy and get a rise out of cyclists. And if it is a CC station then I can see that as a definate possibility.

I agree with you to a point, but you can't mandate kindness and/or personel values. I view it as a duty of mine in dire and not so dire situations to help out. And take a dim view on those that look away when something foul happens. I just dont think you can legislate people to have good judgement and I dont think the system can handle the kind of cover you ass response such legislation can bring.

I can make the disticntin between what standards I hold myself accountable and what role legislation should play there. I don't want laws telling us every detial of how we should act.

sounds like we agree on a sentiment level, but disagree on an actionable level.

Cant say how you should act because everybody is made different. You dont know for sure how one will act in a car wreck, earthquake, whatever. We had a teacher that was a leader here on campus, real standup. Well one day she's leaving, middle of the day and see's a guy in our parking lot taking taoff our cars. She gets in her car, goes home and after a few hours of being scared, calls the school to tell what happened. He's long gone and she's so scared he doesnt even want to think what he looked like and was of zero help to the police. You just never know.

LOL
What could we call it?

Froggy may not have been legally required to render or call for aid, but the motorist who struck the cyclist definitely was.

This Froggy story definitely fits the typical CCC radio station modus operandi and is further evidence that any given story can be told various ways, with different impacts on the audience. For example, a socially responsible radio announcer could use the incident as the seed of an unsolicited public service announcement regarding every motorist's responsibility to avoid a collision and to render or summon aid following one.

How is the cyclist? Are there any more details on the real crime here?

Good Question! Unfortunately, they seem to be ignoring that point.. I'll listen tomorrow morning to see if any more news is available..

If the incident was in fact real, the crash itself should have been covered in other local media - a cyclist hit and run should, for example, have made the police blotter section of the local daily paper, or some such...

No, that is exactly what does not need to happen. This is just another ploy to stir up controversy and "shock" people (it's more tiresome than shocking these days, but anyway) -- it would be called "trolling" on an Internet message board. What needs to happen is for them to get zero replies when this happens. For nobody to show any interest in it. Like so many other trolls, the only way to make them go away is to ignore them.

Good point. Given some of the crap they seem to have been responsible for in the past, I'll be surprised if the "incident" happened at all.

I think it's time to start switching off the radio point blank. E-mailing their sponsors doesn't seem to have made any difference, neither did e-mailing the network direct. Maybe if their ratings drop, things might change.

Now that the FCC has decided to crack down on indecency on the radio, the DJs are looking for some other cheap way to get your attention.

There probably was no accident. The DJ knows about recent incidents with other DJs jokingly suggesting that motorists run down cyclists and decided to yank your chain.

As other suggested, the best thing is to switch stations and ignore the twerp. I recommend classical music or jazz if these formats are available. The DJs don't act like third graders.

I agree in principle; nevertheless, even if I turn off MY radio (I wouldn't listen to this sh*t in the first place...), there's still some other impressionable SOB driving around listening to these bozos, and in his subconscious, he's been convinced by the jerk on the radio that bicyclists are responsible for all the traffic problems he ever encounters, and he's going to let the next cyclist he sees on the road know it, by golly...

These guys are idiots, and they need to go. Maybe organizing a sit in in the on-air booth, complete with bicycles? That would probably both make them take notice of cyclists issues with their dombass attitude AND boost their ratings at the same time...

I'm still wondering if any alternative radio station out there has the "balls" to make a "firebomb your local Clear Channel Station" joke. Now I would be laughing at that!

Well, they haven't talked about this at all this morning. It could of very well been a promotion, but it fooled me because the way they brought it up on the radio.

BTW.. The Tampa Tribune does not have a daily police report. It only comes out once a week. This would not make the paper unless it was a hit and run or someone got killed.

Surprise surprise! I'm calling troll on the whole thing -- both the "accident" report and the "poll results".

Is the person bleeding? Do you have any cuts on your hands? Do you carry medical gloves with you? Things are quite different from when I was young. Trying to help someone could end up costing you your life.

Yeah, especially since most people I know have absolutely NO first-aid training whatsoever and would probably just make the situation worse by trying to help. I have a little bit of first-aid training myself, and I'd even be hesitant to do anyting more than call 911 in a situation like that out of fear of making the situation worse, maybe provide CPR if it's absolutely necessary to save the person's life but that's about it.

And if it was a Clear Channel station, complain all you want, but don't expect them to clean up their act. Last year when I was working as a monster at Knott's Halloween Haunt, a local Clear Channel station was promoting "Kill a monster night" (of all things). It took a couple hundred calls from police and lawyers to convince them that it was a bad idea. They changed it to "Get a monster fired night" encouraging people to hit us and video tape our reactions, in the hopes of getting us fired (little did they know, nobody was actually stupid enough to fall for that, it just resulted in a lot of their listeners getting arrested and providing video taped evidence against themselves).
