I recently bought a used 04 redline pro bike builtup from the frame. Has a full dura ace 9 speed group im totally fine with, but it does have an aluminum fork that gives a pretty harsh ride.....I dont want to put out the cash for a carbon fork, should I go with good old steel? I want something that will improve the ride, I can spare a bit of weight as long as its only a bit AND improves ride quality. Thanks!

What you are describing is a carbon fork.
I'd just keep the Al fork and ride it. Cross races are a maximum of 60 minutes (if doing As). If you are getting jarred around, then your airpressure is too high

I use the bike for commuting, so it needs a new fork. Are the nashbar carbons any good or is that going to break on me? What are some cheap yet not TOO heavy steels out there?
edit: What do you guys think of these? No weight measurements, but I heard they weigh in at about 750 grams

needs a new fork? be realistic - you want a new fork, you don't need one.

I would think anything here would work just fine:

I dont need one for cross, but it is a bit uncomfortable commuting on the bike.
