Foo - A Brief Message for my compatriots, on this, the first Tuesday of November...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I went down to where I vote (a busy city high school) and stood in line for about 15 minutes (have no patience for lines) and decided to go back after work. I've never seen a line there before - and I was amazed - and glad - to see a lot of younger, most likely, first time voters.

My wife and I stood in line from 6:40 to 7:55 to cast our extemely marketed "Ohio votes". It was a very nice early morning to be gathered with a 125 or so citizens.

Me, too, about as long. Never had a line at the polling place before (been voting there for about 20 years). Pretty cool.

Voted @ 6:30am. Stood in line with a cold, in the cold, in the rain, and .... AND .... I crap you not. This huge, huge, huge lady on an electric wheelchair rolled over my right foot. But not all the way over. Rolled on it, stopped her 2ton vehicle and looked at me. I could feel my foot bones cracking.

"Sorry." She said like that's what she was suppose to say whether or not she wanted to.
"Just get the d@mn thing off my foot, please."

I went to my polling place at 8:00 this morning, and was voter #49 at my small precinct. No waiting, although I think I just missed a crowd because several people were leaving just as I got there.

I did my part to put an end to the political advertising blitz. ;)

Actually, she was a worker. When the polls opened she steam-rolled through the crowd to help usher us through. I'm still hobbling.

CNN broadcast Obama, Biden, and now Palin casting their ballots. McCain hasn't done it yet.

It's been interesting seeing the various ways each city/county/state goes about collecting votes. The last time I actually voted in person was 1991.

I ride past my polling place (community college) every day, so I stopped in today to vote on my way to work. Propped the bike up outside, and walked in with my sample ballot in hand. I fill it out ahead of time, and just copy off of it when I get to the polls, saves a lot of time trying to remember everything I read about candidates and amendments.

With my "I Voted!" sticker, I can get a free Starbucks coffee, a free Krispy Kreme doughnut, and a free Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Too bad none of those are within biking distance (in a reasonable time, anyway).

CBS will have someone broadcasting from FSU tonight with updates, they're having a huge shibang at the stadium, with coverage playing on the jumbotron, for all faculty and students. I wish I could attend, that would be awesome.

a lot of what i would characterize as 'young professionals'. mid 20s to mid 30s.

My polling place is gay, but I'm gonna vote anyway. The plan is to go on a ride through the hills when the skies clear up from an overnight drizzle, then vote on the way back where the polling place happens to be located less than a mile from where I live. It's atop a steep hill, so I'll mash on up there all sweaty and out of breath, lean the bike against the exterior wall by the door, remove the helmet and gloves (out of respect), stroll in and vote. I live in canyon country, so the voting crowd is never big during mid-day.

Apparently, it's illegal to reward people for voting (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/03/AR2008110302599.html) so you can get the free coffee and doughnuts without voting.

If your polling place is gay, are hanging chads allowed? Perhaps even encouraged?
