Ok, here is better pictures of Dogbike2. Wheels is both 24", not much progress on the rack yet.

Think I`ll do the crank first, to do a DIY change of the BB t fit a modern (and light) BB & crank.

Also I am not yet sure if I am going to swap out the rear triangle with a alu lightweight one I`we got or save it and put it on a mixte. We`ll see. Maybe I`ll just put studded tyres on it the way it is now and ride it and see if I like it alot so that I can make it with only one or if I use this one just for traveling and make a faster lighter one for around this area.

Only thing holding it together is the gearwire. On another bike (same type but 20") I did like this to make it totally detatchable. Might do this on the dogbike2 also. We`ll see.

EDIT: Sorry for the crappy first picture. Did alot to try to fix it, I`ll get a better one soon.

That threaded bolt is under TREMENDOUS STRAIN in this configuration!:eek:

This bike is an accident waiting to happen. :roflmao2::roflmao2::roflmao2:

It is not. You can ride the bike without thatt bolt. If you look carefully there is a different system dealing with that. The bolt is just making sure it stays in place.

I am not a dumb blonde, just blond. I did agricultural ingenieering and has had labour inspections (also investegating accidents) as a job for ten yrs. Have some faith in your fellow humans! :thumb:

Sorry, but as a retired quality engineer for a major earth moving equipment manufacture I see
major issues with that point on that mongrel bike. I care not if you hurt yourself but I'd rather
you weld it up and not worry at all about it.

All that extra length added on is just to much leverage to be safe without welding .

Do as you will but I know it's a very weak joint. Very weak.........:(

The prying force on that joint is on the bottom, not the top. The top is being pushed against the seat tube, which is why the bike could almost be ridden without the fixing bolt. The flange that fits in the slot on the bottom ring is where you'd get a failure due to increased leverage from the extended wheelbase.

So yeah badmother, don't put a bulldozer blade on that rig

No reason to weld this up, I would choose a different frame if I wanted a "one piece bike". I`we got the bike, you`we got the pix only to judge from. The fact that you thought there is alot of strain on the bolt tell me you do not fully understand the joint. Also I would have problems judging from just the pix. This is strong 1970`s bikes.
