Is there any interest in a BF Century ride?

A self-supported, no drop ride would be a lot of fun I think. I don't have a proposed date for this or anything else. Just wondering how much interest there is.

Great idea! I would like to do a century at some point. The problem is doing a no-drop ride with people of great varying abilities. Some can do it in 6 hours and others will require 10 hours.

I don't think I am fast enough to ride with most here. I expect that I could average no more than about 12-13 mph in a hilly century (excluding stops). That makes for a long day on the bike. I averaged around 17.5 mph on the 72-mile Tahoe ride, but that has only about two hills (total climbing ~3000 ft). Plus I was beat at the end, and I can't imagine tacking on another 28 miles at anything other than a crawling speed. Let me know what you decide, but I'll likely go for an organized century for my first time.

I'd be interested, definitely.

Similar sentiments to ROJA though. I'd forecast myself to be on the bike 7 or 8 hours to do the full 100.

I would be interested. I was thinking of organising a century on the California Aqeduct path this winter. 100 miles with flat gravel roads would be a challenge but mainly at the mercy of the wind..

It's possible to do a no-drop century ride with riders of different abilities and speeds. Most longer rides tend to split up into two or three groups anyway. The fast riders can take off ahead, and the slower ones can hang back and chat/suffer. :)

I'd be interested if there isn't a ton of climbing...

I would also be interested, but some advance notice would be nice so I can get a new bike =).

Excellent! I'm glad there's interest.

Now to come up with a route and a date. I'm thinking April.

I've routed out a pretty good century ride that starts right here in Rancho. Heads into the foothills and wanders around. There is some climbing, but it's mostly on rollers. There are very few extended climbs, and those aren't very long. I think it's a pretty good route and still interesting enough not to be boring.

There are also some places to stop and eat lunch.

I'd be interested, but probably not until spring. As far as pace goes, we could agree to keep things pleasantly in the 12-14 mph average range (that's average over whole distance, not rolling speed). If that is still too high (I think most on this list could easily keep that pace in a group), then maybe two official pace groups?

That's a possibility too. Pending weather.

Great idea - count me in; much more likely to be able to make it in the spring.

Spring's good. When planning, keep an eye on other organized centuries. I hope to do the Chico Wildflower this April.

I was thinking Nov. or Dec. too.

I'd be more up for sooner than later. I have been riding more and have done 65, and 70 miles recently. In the Spring I'd be worried about being off the bike due to Feb/March rains.

I'm interested, I've done a couple of solo unsupported centuries. It gets boring all alone!

I just posted one for the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

That could be tough for me to make -- hope you might still consider another run in early '09 though

+1... no way I could ride a century right now... but a spring ride gives me a goal... always helpful for me

Depending upon the date, I'm interested. I did Foxy's, but haven't been riding much since due to weather and other obligations.

Cool!

The Chico Wildflower and LAC in San Jose are written in ink on my calendar for next year - from there, maybe the Davis double if I feel "ready," that is, a single century seems easy (not yet it don't).

I'm interested, and will be checking the NorCal board more regularly, thank you!

By the by, after my Howard Johnson experience in San Jose last year...

...perhaps some nice folk would like to crash in our away to college son's room the night before the Wildflower in exchange for same the night before LAC in San Jose?
