i started to drop my chain 6 times between nyack and manhattan. i was freaked out and barely dared to step into the pedals. i made an emergency stop at cadence on hudson.

i expected to wait and then have a "team of experts" diagnosing and preparing for surgery. a service i thought would be very expensive but could come with a glass of complimentary champagne.

i was wrong.

a mechanic was available right away to look at my bike. it was of course the chain which had several thousand miles on it. he installed a fresh chain. why this issue came up so suddenly and repeatedly is a mystery.
the chain was reasonable priced. and now get this: the service fee to install it and adjust the shifting was $9. i was treated in a very friendly way (i'm not a fan of the condescending attitude at R&A).

another perk: i got to see (and touch) the new cervelo P4 and saw the S3 in real life for the first time. they were both prototypes shipped in for tomorrow evening's cervelo launch of the new model year.

in short: friendly service, replacement part in stock, good price, expert mechanic, and a glimpse at the new cervelos. i could not be more impressed.

okay, one downside: the guy working the espresso machine in the lounge area is a bit on the slow side. but hey :-).

Cadence in philly (manayunk) is the same. Boutique shop, but in no way 'elitist' or anything like that. Mechanics know what they're doing and are always friendly/willing to help. Prices are more than reasonable for service.

i'm glad i found them. prices for parts purchased online are hard to beat. they were installing and cutting down a new fork, installed a new rear cassette, and adjusted the shifting for just $40.

the only downside is all the beautiful bling in the store. it is hard to not buy anything while there.

i'm glad they don't carry ridley anymore. i'm not sure for how how long i could be in the room with a 2009 ridley noah frame without pulling out my credit card :-).
