Got em last weekend. Had 3 light commute rides on em (about 40 miles). Very stiff! Took off at least 2 pounds off the bike. Spendy purchase, but I'm very happy so far. :D

bah forget it sorry guys for taking up bandwidth. I'm gonna need to find a new hosting place.

Anyway they're the new XT cranks with the pipe style BB. The only thing that we were frowning upon was that there were torque specs for the BB cups but no tool with which to torque them with ... the XT box didn't come with a wrench so I had to have the shop install them for me (they had a tool off an XTR box). So all we did was tighten to what they thought was the correct tightness and we let it go. I'll be watching the cups to see if they loosen over the next few miles. I have 2 races coming up so that'll be the true acid test for these new cranks.

i think imagestation doesn't allow linking pictures on its server to other sites, like tripod and some others don't.

if the image files aren't too big, why not post them up here as attachments?

EDIT: that's strange, right after i posted this post, some of the pictures showed.

Cranks look good but that chainstay looks a bit beat up. Also, did you say you were racing? With those tyres? Offroad?

Pic doesn't work for me. Try www.titansfan098.com, a free image hosting service, no signup required. A member I know from another forum set it up and it has been a great service!

Hey thanks for the references to the hosting site!

Naw I don't race on those tyres :p They're my commute tyres. I took the pic right after I put the bike together on Sunday ... ready for Monday's commute. But yea the chainstay on the drive side is beat up coz when I first got the bike the old chain it had on had a real serious case of chain suck. I took it on some trails and it didn't hold up very well. Since then it's had a new chain (shortened to prevent chain suck), new FD, and now new chainrings.

BTW, the chainrings are soooooo smooth!! I mean when I shift, I don't even feel the shifting ... the chain just goes up and down with minimal chatter. :D

Ok an update to the original post.

I have taken the bike on a very muddy training ride last weekend for the upcoming Billy Cross race on April 3rd in Sonoma. If there was anything that was creaking it was me. :p Cranks held up great through water and mud. Chainrings worked good, cept for two cases of chainsuck.....I think they may be my fault for cross chaining the bike.

I heartily recommend these cranks to anyone who's looking for a set of high performance cranks with the pipe-style spindle. Personally I think they look better than the Race Face design.

I haven't liked the looks of XT cranks since about '97 or '98, but the news ones look spiffy! Glad you like them Chi!
