So I'm out riding my regular little loop around the neighborhood, trying to set a new personal land speed record for the course. I go past the baseball field, and there's guys on bikes and a tent that says "Kona", and stripey things on the ground across the bike path. What's this? So I zipped on through, came back to the house, checked my speed ("fail"), then rode back over there and inquired about it. And what it was, was Cyclocross. Didn't know they did that in the neighborhood, must have had 50 riders or so out there. The guy I asked about it offered me the chance to go take a run around the course, but I declined.

Reminded me of the story of the Fred touring Europe on a bicycle who accidentally won a bicycle race in Italy. Only he was fast, and I'm not, so it wasn't quite the same.

And if you don't understand the title due to extreme youth or culture, then take a few minutes to listen to "What it was, was football".

Yeah, I saw that they finally scheduled some races in Dallas. One group is planning a series in Flower Mound, and they are all scheduling the races during the week so that I can't go. Maybe someday I'll get to go to more than two races a year.

Who is "they"? I googled it and found some Dallas area races later in the month, but nothing showing on the schedule for now. When I was over there earlier, it looked like they were starting and stopping at their leisure like they were doing warmup or practice laps. But then they all had numbers on themselves or their bikes, so I assume there was an actual race(s) in there somewhere, too.

This was an old thread that I resurrected due to spotting the video.
From this website: http://www.dallasbikeworks.com/
"Cross Racing is on the horizon!
"Stay tuned as we finalize our two series season. Instead of one long season like last year, we will have a pre-holiday series and a post-holiday series with a break in between."

So it sounds like more is upcoming, but I don't know if they'll have it at the same park again. And it looks like there's other cyclocross activities in the area that are unrelated and may be going on.

New series starts September 29th. I'll try to swing by, that's not a half mile from my house.

I was just by the park, and they were setting up for more races. Only this isn't the Tuesday night series, it's a different set. Starts tonight at 6:15 or so, then more tomorrow. Great weather, but bring a coat, it'll likely get chilly; http://www.dallasbikeworks.com/

correct!

I assume you did if you thought you did. I went to air up my tires, and had a broken spoke on the Sojourn, so I just rode the Worksman out there. I left late, and it was getting close to dark when I got there, and everyone was already packing up and leaving, so I just rolled on through the middle of it all, went back up Tripp Hill and back in (and stopped at Walmart and picked up groceries on the way back, the Worksman is good for something!). Got the spoke replaced Friday night and was back on the Sojourn this morning. Thursday a week ago, I was down at the Texas Time Trials, and seems like the Thursday before that, I had something else going on and wasn't able to make it. Hopefully, I'll be able to swing by this next Thursday, though.

And don't worry about names, just holler "Hey You". When people have names like Creakyknees (or like my "GlacierChaser" ID in bikejournal), real names tend to be forgotten.

Is the team made up of the waitresses? If so, do they wear the same outfits? That would make for an interesting spectator opportunity!

I went by a couple of weeks ago to see the race, and they didn't have the race course set up. There were a few guys riding around, though. I stopped and asked one of the guys what was going on. He told me someone had stolen the electrical wires off of the light poles there in the park. Hmph. On the website, I see "For the time being, we will be hosting the TNX in our own back yard. I will be posting details as we work them out." Now, a normal person, if they had wiring stolen, would have it put back up the next day, but the city may take 3 months to run it through the bid process or something, who knows.

no kidding... when I was pedaling down there I never realized it was that rough a neighborhood.

anyway - their "own backyard" is behind the shop at Dallas Bike Works at Lawther / NW Hwy near White Rock Lake and the DART station.
