The link below is for Craig's List in the Raleigh, NC area. Does anyone know anything about the performance of this type of machine?

Cool machine. I imagine it depends on who's pedaling. I've ridden a conference bike (http://www.conferencebike.com/index.html)and even with just the owner and me on board, we were flying down the street. Far faster than the usual six passengers who never ride bicycles.

Looks like a cool machine, I have seen it before.. Agree that the speed would depend on the ratio of weight to "muscle" and a desire to go for it, or just a sunday drive in the country mentality. For those who want to really go, hope it has good brakes.

I haven't tried one. From what I have read, they are for novelty use at the seashore, or neighborhood fun, and would not normally be used for transportation anywhere (IE, they're slow). Normally called a "surrey".

Oh yeah, most of these that I've seen, only 4 people pedal- other two seats don't have pedals. That's where you put your 2-year-old.

They rent those things out around here. Novelty item for tourists.

A Donutmobile with riders wearing matching outfits creates a bolder presence than random tourists on surreys. A paceline is linear but a pacecircle is...is....so hard to get anywhere:

Slow and difficult to steer.
Forget it if a wheel rolls into the sand.
Lame.
