View Full Version : I did not vote.

I failed to register in time for the election. I slacked off the paperwork, and trying to get it in as a late registration didn't work. Pretty irresponsible of me, but that's why I'm taking care of it now to avoid the same problem for midterms and the next presidential election.

With that said, I endorse Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

I'm in the same boat but by the looks of it, my vote wasn't necessary.

At least in NY it doesn't seem to matter. Florida is another story. Could be safe, you never know.

move to a state that lets you register at the same time.

If you'd have spent less time on your dating profile, you would have had time to register to vote.

Someday you are gonna lie to your grandchildren and tell them you voted for the first African American President.

I don't need to lie; I was a part of it.

I'm in Canada - we can register to vote right at the polling place (I always have to because I keep moving in between elections). You just bring your ID and something that has your current address on it so they know you are voting at the right place. We also have advance polling and mail-in voting for those (like students) who are away from their home riding at election time. It seems a lot simpler than the US system.

I am looking at cnn.com and I'm confused - they are calling the results, but when you mouse over the map it says things like "8% returned." How the heck can they tell? I am afraid something will still happen to screw this up. (By which I mean the Republicans doing something nefarious. Yes, I'm paranoid. I don't live very far from an undefended border).

Don't worry. This election is over.

And 8% of precincts is often enough to get well within the margin of error for the whole state.

I didn' t register in time either...although I did go down to the poll's and fill out an affidavit paper ballot...which not only got my vote in but also registered me, killing two birds with one stone.

with that said...I also supported Barack Obama but did it by actually putting in my vote:p

I went three times to vote yesterday.

1st - went to normal polling place and there was probably 50 in the building (big city high school) with another 75 waiting outside. I waited 15 minutes and went to work.

2nd - went back to normal polling place where the did NOT have my name in the books. I thru a hissy and said I voted in the primaries here!!! Where the hell do I have to go?? I received NOTHING in the mail telling me my voting place had been changed. They told me the bus station back downtown. wtf - at that time it was getting dark out and I did not have my front light on.

so ... I zoomed back up main street - by now you needed all lights on and locked the bike up and walked into Hell ...

3rd - walked down a hallway that was big enough for a large person to walk down only ---- and so there was about 75 people waiting in the hallway - you could only get by them by turning sideways. And more than one person smelled horribly. I peeked down the hallway into THE ROOM and there was probably 50 more people and ONLY ONE voting booth. And still the people poured in - they were coming in groups of 3's and 6's ---- plus they brought their many children. I waited 20 minutes, sweat pouring off me and said to hell with it and left.

First time I haven't voted in many years.

Absentee ballet from now on while I live where I do.

Wow, that sucks, Tude. It's amazing how they don't accommodate for crowds like that. Mine was at the local elementary school, with six booths. I went myself at 1030 to vote, then went back later (about 100) and brought someone there. Both times there was no wait, and one or two booths avail.

Make sure you re register. Sometimes if you skip a year of voting, you won't get your ballot in the mail. You won't get it for sure if you skip TWO votings. I worked the campaign precincts last time and this was a huge complaint.

Hiya, Chiliboy!! *waves*

I didn't vote because I can't.

I'm not a citizen yet, but had I been, I would have voted. If you don't vote (and you can, physically, mentally, etc), you have no right to complain about any policy (imho), since you didn't speak up when you had the chance.

If everyone was saying that they didn't 'need' to vote, then no one would have voted. Young people turned out in record numbers for this election, and here you are saying that you were too lazy to fill the paperwork and register on time.

Crassic, come on now!
