Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - October is part, the frost is on the pumpkin, and did you meet your goals last month?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, did you?

Once again I beat Natbla to start the thread. Perhaps the only thing I can beat him in. :)

I feel like I smashed my goals. I didnt have a set number of rides or miles for October, but the fact that I was able to mostly regularly (a couple - few times a week) commute in during my first 45 days owning a bike in over 15 years was great. I have set a goal of 150 miles this month, and so far I have 18 in, with a lot of days left. I'm going to keep my goals very conservative for the next few months as I adjust to winter riding and learning how to do so safely.

This spate of warm weather is certainly not hurting things.

I didn't have any set goals for this month, but I did ride 500+ miles in October, so I'm feeling pretty good about that. I also crossed the 20lb mark on my total weight loss, so I'm feeling pretty good about that too.

I came back from giving up cycling. Everything else is irrelevant.

YES I CAN!

IN my case that would be a resounding NO! on meeting any goals or expectations for October. Work and life has officially pushed biking to the side for a while. If I get out 2-3 times in November I'll be happy. On the plus side, I've put out applications for over $4 million in funding for affordable housing in the last 3 weeks. So 3 applications down and betwen 4-6 to go between now and the 15th of December. Oh yeah, I do get to spend 4 days in FL for a certification training and test, and Thanksgiving in the Cumberland Plateau of TN. If I'm lucky I'll get to bring a bike to the TN trip.

Historian - you tend to beat me at things that take the most dedication - longer trips, higher higher annual mileage, loner BF threads so I'm sure that just cause my geography forces me to like climbing things faster than you doesn't really count in my book.

The one cool bike thing from October and now early Nov. -my 5 year old has decided that her idea of a fun ride is to go to our back alley and pedal her 16 inch bike up and down a small hill over and over. She seems to thrive on the challenge of a 40 lb kid pedaling a 25 pound bike up a 130 ft long hill with ~10 feet of elevation gain and then fly back down it. But it gets better. When she gets done with that she wants me to breakout the tag-along bike and do the same thing with her in tow on a 2 tenths of a mile at 8% grade. What kind of monster have I created?

Yes, yes I did quite well.

Riding, not as many miles as I would like but I did make emeritus. All in all it's a win!

I call BS. There are no "small hills" in Frostburg!

Meh, been on the DL for basically all of October.

I'm crossing off October on the calendar with no looking back.

One more week and the Physical Terrorist said he'd consider releasing me, ie tell the wife I can have my bike back.

I thought you were going for short rides by now. You even posted about one.

Yea, but it's like they put Lo-Jack on my bike or something. Maybe even satellite surveillance. Some how She Who Must Be Obeyed just knows.

My knees aren't even done cracking after a 5 mile ride.

My weight is ridiculous, my bike is half busted, but I still have drive. October? No. But November shows promise.

I didn't have any specific goals for October. I took the last week of the month off from riding in preparation for my November goal of 750 miles.
At 4 days down I'm already at 111 miles, so I'm on track to hit this month's goal.

Not until the end of the month did I feel like I got some time in - I ended up taking some days
off to go off on long exploratory rides.

October was a mixed bag for me. I only lost 4 pounds in Ocotober. I am way behind on my 2008 goal, but I have still lost 74 pounds this year.:thumb: That I am very pleased with. I started off the month recovering from having my gallbladder removed, so I did not set any riding goals for the month. I wound up with 143 miles for the month, and I competed in my first Duathlon. I very much consider it to be a succesful month.

Nope. my goal all year has been to beat last year on total distance, I was successful in March (+1km), April (+86km) and May (+23km), failed in June (-160km), July(-252km), August(-187km), September (-185km) and October (-117km), the season officially (for me anyway) ends October 31st,. no riding is planned for November, December, January or February, We are considering getting a trainer, so that may change this year.

Good thing is, with decent weather, next year should be easy....
