Got off work last night and took off into the mists of a spring fog. It was so cool, and errie. You could see where the warm air was layering itself on the cold in the low lying pockets. In some places it was thick enough to not be able to see the path ahead. I suppose this is one thing about commuting in Minnesota, watching the seasons come and go!
Boy what a switch from watching the snow pile up.

Riding in fog when it's dark is fun but spooky. You are in your own little world. You know what is out there because you ride past it every day, but you can't see it. It's also kind of spooky knowing that overtaking motorists, though few, cannot see you until they are pretty close. I am always prepared to bail when I hear one coming.

Riding through fog was really my most unusual experience this past fall. The fog was low to the trail and I could see over it far ahead, but couldn't see the trail in front of me, my headlight would reflect back, pierce through or shine over the fog adding to the effect. It comes and goes, as you said it layers, and you could see air currents moving it around. If it had been any higher off the ground I would have stopped and walked but, it was like riding through the clouds and very pleasurable. Couldn't agree more though, it sure beats watching the snow pile up!!

I did a ride in fog and with snow still on the ground. That was the coldest ride I had ever been on, but I felt like I was in my own world. Even the area looked different, not familiar at all, and this was a road I knew fairly well. What's really cool is when you just have ground fog and your head is above the fog, and the sun is just coming up. Another day in paradise!

I went for a ride in a night fog last week out at Hinze Dam. That was the best! It's like seeing ghosts. Hang on -- maybe they were ghosts!

I've done a bunch of rides at night in the fog on our rail trail. I too think that it is good fun especially as it is fairly safe on the trail. At night in the winter at the hours I commute I almost never encountered another rider and it can be real magical just floating through the fog. Lights become so much more interesting.
