STARTING FROM ORINDA BART (Meet at 8:30, leave no later than 8:45)

We'll work out how to rendez-vous with Pete at the top of Lomas on the day

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/EastBayHills2-Skyline

Plan A....

Orinda BART - Moraga Way to Glorietta.
Left on Glorietta, Right on Rheem and for the first climb of the day – lap up the nice straight descent.
Right on Moraga Rd and head towards Canyon. First regroup point at junction w/Pinehurst.
This time, turn LEFT on Pinehurst and follow the road through to Redwood, climb to junction w/ Skyline – second regroup here.
Follow Skyline to Grizzly peak, as per the first ride, to the junction of Lomas Cantadas/Grizzly Peak (“the little trains”) – Water and restrooms available here, last restroom is at Inspiration Point.
Follow Grizzly Peak to Shasta, then Wildcat, proceed cautiously down Wildcat (!) then do the 3 bears loop from SPDR, Castro Ranch, Alhambra, Bear Creek back to SPDR.
Return south to Orinda BART

Either my post sank without trace, or I'm in the Norcal dog house - .

Hey Beaker...I don't know why you would be in the "Dog House", but I'm always in it!

I'll come and play...any kittys to chase????;)

I've certainly checked out the interior of several of those in my time. Not bike related though...

You never know, but it's early days. Hoping we don't have to resort to any of the east bay guys in drag.

Bummed but also happy.

Bummed because my Saturdays are committed to staying home with the kids for many of the next several weekends.
Sat, Nov 15
Sat, Nov 22
Sat, Dec 6
Sat, Dec 13
My riding will have to be on Sundays on those weekends.

Happy to stay home because my wife has committed to a Team in Training ride series to prepare her for the Solvang Century next year which will be her first century. You go girl!

I will miss joining y'all for this ride, have fun.

Sorry (for us) to hear that Dan -- but glad you'll have some more time to spend with your kids :thumb:

I am trying to make the ride on the 22 but cannot confirm yet.

Thanks Georges -- if you can't make it, PM me and let's try to catchup another time. I'm definitely interested in keeping in touch with my east bay neighbours to see who might be up for a 2hr ride on a weekend sometime - the sort of thing that probably wouldn't warrant a BF post.

I may be in for the 22nd. My saturdays are free for some time to come (minus thanksgiving and christmas). Though Orinda is mad far from here, I'll try to make it :)

Hey, that's a great TnT group being pulled together - I've ridden with several of the participants, honorees (cancer patients, some of whom are riding with the team), coaches and other staff members. She should have a lot of fun. She'll probably see me helping out with SAG on at least one of the rides.

JB

PS - my schedule is still in too much of a flux to commit to making this ride, but I'd like to!

I would love to come, but I'll be in Hawaii at the time.

Oh well, I'll manage.:)

In the mean time, how about a minor ride this weekend? I've been off for the last 2 weeks, but something around 30-40 miles should be fine.

My guess is no - I still haven't seen the final soccer tournament schedule for the weekend, but they like to put everything onto Saturday if they can. I'm a coach, so it's pretty tough to say, "I'll miss this one, kids - I'm going to ride my bike instead!"

On the positive side, my oldest son's team got first in the town, and 3rd overall after winning the last tournament over the team that crushed them in the first game of the season - they're feeling pretty good about themselves right now.

JB

Edit - I just realized you're talking next weekend, not this weekend - as of right now, soccer season is over after this weekend. I might just make it!

Bumping this up and updating the original post -- the weather for Saturday looks peachy, I'm thinking we'll actually get this one done.

One question -- anyone considering the low key hill climb?

jonathanb715

I'm now a definite - no. Saturdays and bike riding just don't work for me right now:(

Posting this question in response to the LKHC thread. Can you confirm if you are interested in doing El Toyonal/Lomas Cantadas low key hill climb as a part of this ride? Please let me know yes/no and we can work out what to do.

Several options could work, for instance one could be to start the ride a little later - accomodating those who want to make the climb. Others could climb Wildcat Canyon (an easier, more scenic climb) and we could rendez vous with the LKHC folks at the top of Lomas and Grizzly Peak -- not a big detour at all.

I'll hold off any other suggestions until I know what everyone feels like doing. I don't want to leave anyone out who would otherwise want to come along (RoboCheme, perhaps)

Hey, I will be doing the LKHC, but I really want to do your ride...I think it would intergrate really well, Let's just go with what you think would be the best plan for us.:thumb: Sounds like an awesome day:thumb:

I'm tempted to do the LKHC, especially if others are already peeling off to do so. I'll work around whatever start time.

Exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for - thanks guys.

I suggest we keep the same of start time. IIRC the LKHC starts at 10, so perhaps we can rendez-vous with Pete and anyone else doing the climb at the top of Lomas sometime between 10:30 and 11-ish (we could formulate a plan when we meet up), giving us ~2hrs riding time first. Perhaps we might do the 3 bears section first - we can make that call on the day.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of this climb Pete, just let us know if you'll meet us at BART or just see you at the top of Lomas

see you all Saturday - Richard

I'll meet you guys for sure at the finish line. I might show up anyway at the Orinda bart and ride a little bit to warm up then split off for registration. I have to figure it all out then I'll know for sure my Itinerary.

I think I am going to pass on the LKHC. I want to do it, but at this point I think the extra 2 hours of riding would be more valuable to me. I'll be at Orinda Bart at 8:30.

Beaker
11-20-08, 09:48 PM
Both the north and south parts of the ride are really nice if you've not done them before - you won't regret it!

Besides, we can always climb El Toyonal/Lomas right at the end if you're not feeling tired...:innocent:

There is a train from SF arriving at Orinda at 8:22. I will plan to be on that train. (It leaves SF Civic Center at 7:51.) Looking forward to it.

EDIT: I wouldn't mind doing the Three Bears first and then Moraga/Canyon/Pinehurst/Skyline/Grizzly. That way those on the Oakland/Berkeley side could ride directly home from Inspiration Point or somewhere on Grizzly and avoid having to take BART home from Orinda. I've also never done the Bears fresh and would be curious to see how I'd do!

Or meet at the bottom. Most racers like to leave all their stuff (saddle pack, extra water bottle) at the bottom/car/etc.

Let's see what the consensus is. I might be there.

Awesome guys - it'd be good to ride with you. I'm updating the original post with my cell # if anyone needs it.

Marco, good call - I hadn't thought of that. If we meet at the top, then it just means a nice climb up wildcat then golf links to get to Grizzly peak, if we meet at the bottom then it's no big deal. It'd be great to meet up with some more peninsula folks.
