I finally gave in. I am now the new owner of a Jamis Sputnik fixed gear/single speed.:D 48/16 gearing, 23mm tires, around 17-18lbs :speedy:(I heard the Jamis listed weight was low...they said 16, and that may have been last year's brakeless model). The price I got at Sammy's was just too good to pass up. I guess this crappy economy benefitted me. $605 delivered (including Sammy switching out drop bars and brakes for bullhorns) for a $900 list 2009 bike: Yes, I'm riding with brakes:twitchy:...I'm not a COMPLETE idiot.

So if getting a road bike 3 years ago was my midlife crisis, (as my wife says), what is this? A return to my childhood, maybe? (I can be pretty childish sometimes)

Now, how do I get my wife to let me ride my FEBRUARY birthday present as soon as pick it up from Sammy?:p

Hey ... fixed gear is OLD SCHOOL. We rode 'em back in the '80's, man ,as did the old guys before us!

Ordered and paid for, but not even in Sammy's hands yet for the build-up. Having said that, I should have waited, but I was too dang excited:D

Pics will come ASAP.

1. pick up bike and drop off at psimet's house.
2. tell wife bike is still on it's way
3. when you want to ride tell her you are going to the library to read self-help books on relationships
4. go by psimet's and pick up bike for ride and drop off beer tax
5. when discovered claim you were really wanting to read the books to learn how to bring honesty back into your relationship....
6. give psimet another beer. Just because.
7. Hang out with children's hipster friends and start collecting fashion tips.
8. Tell wife and children that you can't bother anyone if you aren't there...implying a ride will solve that.
9. Give psimet another beer for not being dumb.

Hopefully you only put a % down. Never give ANY bike shop all your $$ up front. They have a tendency to flake out. Bicycle Heaven only requires a % on large purchases IIRC.

:roflmao2:Looks like a pretty good plan. Do you sell divorce insurance, too?

Ah, the bike isn't even delivered to the shop yet, and I'm having the drops switched to 'horns, so I can't even use a stock picture from Jamis (and last I checked they didn't even have the '09 models on their site). Hey, you think you're itching to see it?

They have creams for that.

it's never EVER too late to have a happy childhood....enjoy the ride. I'm happy you did not leave brakes off your bike.....I realize I'm hopelessly old-fashioned, but it just seems like good sense to be able to stop when you need to :p

PSI....#3and 5 on your list...hilarious. You must really be in touch w/your feminine side :-)
