Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - a serious question. serious discussion. don't delete this. replies requested.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
i have a feeling the mod won't respond to my pm, so i thought i would bring this to you people. here it is, verbatim, what i sent to him.
"thats fine. i can admit i was trolling somewhat. but i have a serious question about this and would like a serious discussion about it, so please respond. if i had made that thread again, with a different tone, would it still be deleted? if i had said "hey here is this way to get rid of those annoying little ads, hope somebody finds it useful" would that still get deleted? basically, are you going to censor something that most everyone on the board would find helpful, just because you don't make any money off of it? that is what i want to know. "
what do you think?

I always thought PMs should be kept private, it's what the P stands for after all.
i only put what i sent to him. i don't care if anybody knows. i just dont think i will get a response. this is what i was getting at before. just a little less calm about it. regardless. main question at hand.
There is a subforum for these types of posts. Foo is not the correct place for this.
HomeDepot would not take kindly to you walking around there store sending their customers somewhere else either.
People know about other browsers and adblockers. Give it a rest. Seriously.

Some use PMs to get away with stuff they wouldnt get away with if it were posted for all to see, in that case I would most def post a PM without loosing any sleep. In my case I had a Mod tell me this, "Does the world really need a thread of four pictures of your budget seat post" and "Sorry if I rained on your parade. Im the future" What kind of BS is that?

Dissent isn't always taken too kindly here.
The basic underlying philosophical "right" of free speech as a constitutional guarentee is not seen as applying if it offends a forum member and can also be shown to be offensive to a moderator or offend a moderator. Once that is done, whatever it is you were saying is subject to their decision.
It has been my experience that the moderators, for the most part, try and do a good job. There are times when that hasn't been the case but you have to decide if you want to post here and play by their rules or leave.

This site is kept alive by the ads. It's kind of stupid to give everybody ways to block them (when most know how to if they wanted to anyway) when no revenue would likely kill the website. People don't just pay for the site's upkeep just to give us a free resource. It takes money to keep the site alive and the ads are there for that reason.

Well, they can only do their jobs with the information given to them. Typically it's the loudest whiniest complainers that gets their will imposed upon the masses who've been enjoying themselves here.
As for ads, I don't mind them at all, especially several of the sexy ones a couple months ago. :)

I personally choose to stay here and play by the rules of the forum and not the rules of the mods :thumb: EDIT! for the record, ads dont bother me in the least, sorry OP.

Can't you get rid of the ads by buying a membership? There's a solution everyone can live with.
it should be noted that i did get a response and he was helpful and nice.

report idiots like that to the powers that be.
i had one recently sending me multiple PMs telling me to change my avatar because it was 'making a statement.'
the stupid idiot couldn't tell the difference between a logo and a statement. i refused. the mods discussed. my avatar was allowed to stay.
the moral of the story: somehow a few obnoxious idiots got a blue star. doesn't mean that they're all that way.
my point is this:
my problem isn't with the mods,it's with the board itself. this board could be a lot better, if they wanted it to be. but like it was said "dissent isn't taken too kindly here" (and i found out first hand) and thats where the problem lies. their priorities are not in line with with us first and foremost. and it seems that most of the members just don't seem to care.

And unfortunately, it's like bad-reviews on restaurant sites or complaint-letters to any business. The majority of satisfied customers enjoy the product or service and continue quietly on their way. It's the few unsatisfied righteous whiny types that get their underwear in knots and throw a tantrum. That's the only time that the mods really get involved; if no one complains, everything's fine. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. It's the tyranny of the minority imposing their will on the masses. And I know exactly where to stuff that grease once I bend the whiners over...

*****, "dissent isn't taken too kindly here" is a statement that isn't exactly true, there's a procedure to handle it is all.. If you have an issue with one of my staff, you can always PM or email me. Take note of the title under my name.....that means I deal with moderator/member issues, among other things. Opening a thread like this simply places a match near an open container of gasoline, and nobody wants to go down that road, staff or membership.
Now, I see that you have already resolved your issue, as well, so please, in the future, don't hesitate to contact me, my PM or email box is always open. I will respond as soon as I am able. :D
My email is tom (at) bikeforums (dot) net, by the way. By the way, I also moved this to the appropriate forum.
Thanks
Tom
