I fixed up my old (95) Trek 750 for a friend who needs to lose some weight and get back in shape. I rode this bike for 6 years before I went 'bent, and thoroughly enjoyed most of it. I was amazed at what some clean up, tune up and fix up did for the old ride. I had to replace the tires, BB, chain, cassette, and brake cables/housings. I had the hubs serviced and wheels trued by the LBS. After doing all that, it sure looked good.
Took it for a ride and everything worked just fine after some minor adjustments to the shifter barrels. But the riding position just felt like I'd go 'over the bars' with slightest mishap. Yuuuck! These DF bikes really feel dangerous when you are used to a LWB recumbent. Well, I'm staying 'bent, that's for sure. I do hope my friend really USES it and likes it. bk
Sounds like you had fun fixing up the old steed. It is a joy to bring the "dusty'' back to life. Good job on helping someone get hooked (we hope) on biking and exercize..

Floyd, I did have a good time doing the rehab job. Ir was very satisfying to see the results and know I did most of the work. Plus, the more you work on bikes, the better you get at it. This was a win all the way around. bk

Well, my friend has had it for a week now and really likes it. He has been on three rides and is getting serious workouts. My plan has worked. It was a real good fit from the get go, too. I'm glad my old DF ride has been well placed. bk

I have a LWB 'bent and a hybrid bike. If you keep riding both, the upright feels better. I may buy a unicycle someday just to really have something different. :)
