Hello Bike Forums Members,
Just wanted to take a second to introduce my newbie self.

My love affair with bikes started at the age of 6 when my dad bought a new R&R CR-1 for me for my birthday. I think he felt bad because my previous bike was a 16" girls Huffy or Murray that he moto-crossed out. A nice gesture for sure, but it was still a girls bike despite the new black paint job, number plate and handlebars.

I rode the R&R for several years until the seat tube bent (as most did, as it was a flawed design). My next bike was a Diamond Back Silver Streak and after that was stolen a beautiful 84 GT Pro Performer in yellow, like my hero at the time, Eddie Fiola. Unfortunately that one was stolen too, then came girls and cars, blah blah blah.

During the mid 90s, living in San Francisco I again gravitated towards bikes and freestyle. I purchased a 95 GT Performer and began riding all the time for a few years. Again, life got in the way, yada yada.

A couple years back I discovered the vintage BMX scene and have since found and rebuilt replicas of all my childhood bikes, except the girls Huffy… That was great and I enjoyed those builds so much but didn't find myself riding them too much because a 20" bike just doesn't fit me like it used to.

I decided to get a vintage road bike so I could actually start riding more, get some exercise and enjoy the bay area under my own power. I found an all original '80 Motobecane Grand Touring and have been hooked since. I now ride about 50 miles/week including my commute. I've since aqcuired a '73 Raleigh Super Course and converted it to a single/fixed and am loving the challenge of having just one ratio to cover the various routes and terrain. It's such a great workout!

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and give some propers to this site as it has always come in handy as I Googled various questions in the past. I appreciate the vast amount of velo-knowledge and hope to contribute my experiences and expertise in the future.

Ride on…:thumb:

schweet rides!

:-)

and greetings from a flatlander...

(been to San Jose many times - lived in SF at Bush and Leavenworth for three years in the late 70s, riding a Viscount 'deathfork' bike - does San Jose still host a big flea market?)

thanks…
yes SJ still has a big-ass flea market and a couple smaller ones. not too many vintage bike finds, especially at the big flea market. mostly just crap, except they have a great fruit and vegetable market.

wow, I lived on Sutter at Leavenworth for a few years in the early 90s! great place to start urban living.

what do you ride these days?
