Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm hoping to get some local cyclists to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new 10 Mile Creek Greenway. Below is the press release:

From Kathleen Gibi in City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation:

The City of Knoxville is ready to open the new 10 Mile Creek Greenway,
and you're invited!

What: 10 Mile Creek Greenway ribbon cutting
When: Tuesday, November 11 at 4:15 p.m.
Where: Trail head at Carmike Wynnsong Theater parking lot (east end)

Come out to see the new 10 Mile Creek Greenway, which features the
longest bridge in our greenway system. The greenway runs from the
Wal-Mart at Walker Springs to the Carmike Wynnsong Theater in Cedar
Bluff. The first 50 people to attend will receive a movie ticket for
Carmike Cinemas!

Last time I attended one of these greenway openings I was interviewed and my name as well as several bike-related quotes made the front page of the newspaper. This is a great way to show the governement officials who'll be there and the press that bikes are awesome!

I hope to see some of you out there on Tuesday. Bring a bike, bring a friend, bike the planet!

It's nice they finally finished that last section. It took what, ten months or so, to complete the last couple hundred yards? That's a fancy bridge though. :)

I'll have to see how Tuesday goes. I live a short ride from there, so I can represent if I'm at home in the afternoon.

Okay- I got a small group of cyclists together for this but we'd love to have even more people to ride with.

We are meeting at the parking lot of the YMCA off Winston Road and hope to be ready to ride at 3:45PM. We'll ride up the greenway at a pace that is safe for the likely wet-leaf-covered trail conditions to the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Lights are encouraged but probably not required since the ceremony will be over before it gets really dark.

Please attend if you can. This is such an easy way to show our elected officials and the news media that cyclists have an active interest in our greenway infrastructure.

Pedal on,
-Ryan Cooper

Does anyone know how to get from Bearden Hill to Turkey Creek by bike? There's not a bike-friendly option that I know of.

If I was riding it I would cross Kingston Pike north on either Wesley Road or Vanolsdale Road. Take the West Hills Greenway and connect to the Ten Mile Greenway. Ride all the way to the end, then head west on North Peters Road/Parkway Drive.

I do not recommend trying the latter road during high traffic hours unless you are very comfortable riding with traffic, as there is a stretch of it that is only two lanes.
