Cyclocross - Clincher rims for a CX bike.

I wish to replace my Alex Ace 19 rims with something better. The rims are a little wider than most road rims, but not as wide as 29er or heavy duty touring rims. The inside width is 16mm and the outside dimension is 23mm.

Do you know of a rim I should consider?

What type of riding are you doing? This is where you start. If you are racing I would go for the Velocity aeroheads. For commuting or durability the post above has a good suggestion.

If it were me it'd be aeroheads, with the o/c rear. This is assuming 32 spokes. If it were fewer spokes, I'd probably be looking at something a little burlier, like dyads or deep V or what.

These are my winter commuter wheels, I'll use 32 spokes. I'm a heavier (230 lbs) rider using the wheels on city streets. I'll use 700 x 32 Armadillo tires.

I damaged the rear rim beyond repair & the Ace 19 rim is no longer available. I've read many negitive reviews on the Ace 19.

i use the cross delgado's on my 29er. i've had them built up for three seasons now? they're light for how beefy they are, plus i like that they're eyeleted. i'm very pleased with them and they have held up great, especially considering how rough and rocky the terrain can be around here. this is also a rigid bike and i'm certainly not the smoothest rider in tech stuff.

a friend of mine also had them on his old 29er. he put a good 2000 miles on that bike, with never an issue with the rims. he also runs them on his ss cx commuter.

Mavic CXP 33s. I am also about 230 and have had great success with 32 hole CXPs. I race cross and do a good bit of singletrack riding on mine. I also use a set on my road bike - never need truing.

32 hole open pros have taken me through 2 cx seasons (rough and rocky PDX courses), some light singletrack, and road with only one light truing. cheap and pretty bombproof.

With all of the good suggestions here the other thing to consider is the builder. A well built wheel with a lighter rim will be stronger than a machine built wheel with a heavier rim. Spend the money on a good builder.
