Mountain Biking - avid squeal

I got my avid disks for christmas. I have riden them 3 or 4 times since then in the snow and they work great. I rode 2 days ago now that the snow is melting I should be riding a lot. Anyway, the front started to squeal when breaking and 20 minutes later the back started to squeal when breaking. Why is it doing this, it breaks great but makes one heck of a racket... Is it because of the wetness? will it do this anytime they get wet? because I rarly ride without getting wet... Do they make any of that no squeek stuff like they do for cars?

I think it MAY be the simple coldness. I know...I don't get it either but my rear shock squeals in cold weather. But it's a very poor quality kind. Maybe it's just becuase of stuff freezing up and shrinking due to the coldnesss and the lack of friction due to the cold. I don't think it will be a problem. When it hits above like 5 degrees celcius, i think they will stop squealing. And my dad's civic does not squeak anywhere anytime in any situation so far.

Lots of disk brakes squeal when wet, I know my Avids do (makes a great turkey call I found out). Look at the bright side, everyone knows you are coming!

In general water will act as a lubricant for friction surfaces. Could be that you have not ridden enough yet to bed in pad to disc, or is the other bug bear Corrosion. Not only on the disc, but are the pistons holding a bit, or even even grit getting onto the pads and causing the squeal.

Turkey call LOL! That's why I've been seeing so many turkeys.

Squealing discs, all ya need to do is find a long steep hill and go down fast and hold the brake. Heat it up real well. This seats the pads and almost always stops the squeal. Watch out for turkeys though hhehe.

mine squeal when muddy but i just find some not so muddy water ,ride thru it and they are noisier at first but stop soon after.the turkey call hasnt worked in va.but it does tend to scare squirrels off.the main thing is that they are stopping you and you will find that they will get better with more use and they will do it again at times.not to worry unless the turkeys get pissed at the false alarms ,fly over your head and drop turkey poop bombs on your head.

When it is REALLY cold and wet (like the time I rode in 3 inches of snow at Horizons Park), my Avids squealed like stuck pigs...However, it was so cold, the cables were freezin' up...

Since it's been dry and warm, all they do is stop me...SO yes, it's probably squealing because of weather/trail cnditions...you'll be ok...
