Alt Bike Culture - Is a Minelli a fixup or hackup bike ?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a kids Mtn bike. 24" weels - Minelli brand name made in Canada.
shimano cranks (nothing fancy by the look) one ring is wrecked.
alloy rims of some sort
I've not looked at the back wheel much yet - 6 speed though
Is it a crime to chop this up and mess with it, or is it worth fixing up as it is ?
Thanks

I see that Minelli is still in business and has a website http://www.minelli-bikes.com/
Why don't you look and see? I have no idea of the model but the cover picture looks very cool.
I also don't see 24" but I do see 24 SPEEDS. These are specialty bikes built by a quality dealer, not a box store. I would research them first.
There are dealers in Ontario. I would call one.

Both the Neon and Scorpion models in the catalog have 24x2.125 wheels. The Scorpion has a dual suspension system, both have 21 speeds. No idea as to quality or price, though.

Minelli is a brand of low-end to mid-end bikes around here in Quebec. They have decent frames, now mostly in aluminium but they used profusely of hi-ten and cro-mo in the last decades, with components that work. Most of them I see are hybrid bikes, in the 200-700$ CAN range. Nothing fancy, but workable and tough. They used to make mountain bikes with cheap suspensions, but okay components in the beginning of 1990's. I'd say if it is still in decent shape, fix it, but if it looks ****ty, hack it!
