Bicycle Mechanics - Anybody know where to get helmet strap clips?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
You know the little quick release "nylon" clips for the helmet chin straps...
A buddy borrowed a helmet of mine and did not insert the strap into the clip properly... and then somehow managed to lose the clip. LBS says they don't carry anything like that.
This is for a bell helmet. Yes, I wrote bell... awaiting answer.
I'd check another shop; that's a pretty common replacement item.

What, exactly, are you missing? The male buckle, the female buckle, adjuster or what? There's a little rubber o-ring that gets lost easily. When that happens, one of the buckle parts falls off. If you happen to lose yours, just substitute a small rubber band.
1. PM me with your home address and I'll mail you the part(s) that you need.
2. Digital Gee is a frequent poster on the 50+ forum. He lives in San Diego too. As repayment to me, go over to his house and spread toilet paper all over his yard and bushes.

Goodwill or thrift shops have cheap helmets you could get a clip from.

The easiest place is from one of your old helmets.

Or an old seat-bag you don't use. Think of other items with those sort of clips. Backpacks come to mind...

You can buy those clips from REI.com or any other decent sporting goods store that sells backpacking and camping gear. They are ubiquitous within that type of store.

I get old daypacks or fanny packs from thrift stores and cut off all the clips straps etc lots of good fixes with them

Actually, I'm with the OP -- I, too, lost one of the male clips for a helmet and I looked in REI and Cabela's and the local shops and all they had were clips that were too large. I think contacting Bell is probably the best solution if your LBS can't help you out.

Here is a link to a buckle that is for use with 5/8" webbing, just like that on my Bell helmet.

+1 Just pick up a used helmet, Goodwill and Salvation Army around here have them all of the time, for about $1.

I also have a collection of buckles salvaged from old helmets. PM me if you can't find a replacement.
