Cyclocross - Cutting SIDI soles for pedals?

I've heard that this needs to be done for some pedals, but would it be necessary with my setup?

I've got SIDI dominators and I'm running Crank Bros Candy SL pedals. I've only been riding clipless for a few months now, and I'm still new. I'm just having a lot of trouble trying to get my foot clipped in when I'm remounting from running a barrier.

Any tips?

Try cutting the area out around the cleat. It should help.

use the included plastic shim under the cleat. I had to do that with my shimano shoes.

There are a lot of sidis out there being used with a lot candy's, so I doubt you should need to cut the lugs. Shim the cleats like nitropowered says, and practice practice practice.

i had to shave down the inside lugs on my dominator's to use with bebops due to the low stack height. i don't think this is an issue with candy's but i could be wrong...

anyway, just clip the shoe into the pedal and look at it. if the spindle is rubbing on the inside lugs or the pedal body is rubbing on anything, it is probably having an effect on your clip in and you should look at repositioning the cleat slightly or shaving down the lugs.

don't cut, don't shim, I been using Dom 5's with egg beaters and candys for many years. I actually find the eggbeaters easier to get in and out of in race conditions. I think, you are prolly not used to the feel. Practice a bit and you will get it, they are second nature to me, if I did not get hotspots I would run them on the road also.

I used Sidi's and candy eggbeaters last year with the shim, but still had problems clipping in timely. I also was told to carve out the inside of the tread so there's more room for the cleat and pedal clip to mate. I never got around to it.

So, this year I'm using Time pedals and have found them to be MUCH easier to clip in in a hurry. They still have a little platform for those times I don't get it right the first time.

This is only my second year and still need to practice 'getting it right every time'. I'm sure that, as with anything, with much practice it will become second nature to you.

On the candy & eggbeaters , with the Sidi sole, some of the sole (to the left & right of the cleat) is used for support and prevention of hotspots on longer rides, don't carve anything they will fit fine. Good Luck. I love Eggbeaters for MTB , Cross and Commute, for road I love Look Keo's but it's all personal pref, find what works for you.
