Two places known for their apple farms and harvest and pies are Julian in San Diego County and Oak Glen in San Bernardino County.
In Julian its the Julian Pie Co and at Oak Glen its the Law Pie co. Recently I tasted both this picking season and the Julian has the crispier crust but the Oak Glen has the better tasting apple. The Julian seems to have more fillers in their filling and a bit sweeter. My final answer is Law Pie Co.

Actually, Mom's in Julian apparently got better reviews than Julian Pie Co. but it's not as sweet.

Yeah, Mom's is the standard. Julian Pie Co., while still very good, is just more convenient since you don't actually have to go to Julian to get it:thumb:

Sorry for thread detours. Any other places to see/do in Julian w/o a bike? So I take it that I should go to Mom's if I went into Julian? :)
So far, I've only tasted JPC's at the Santa Ysabel location. While it tastes good, I think it's kind of like a fresher version of what I get at restaurants. Of course, riding up Palomar and Mesa Grande to get there makes the pie taste a whole lot better.

It's just one of those places that you have to kind of walk around and see. I think it's mostly antique shops and whatnot, but they also have a lot of good places to eat. If you haven't tried a buffalo burger you should do that at least once.
I'd say that if you want to make a day of it, you should go check out Lake Cuyamaca, the observatory, and also some of the view points overlooking the desert. Especially after it snows. There's something cool about standing in the snow and looking down into the desert.

No need to get angry... do you need a hug?
There's a mine tour in Julian that's pretty cool, too.

Walking into a hole in the mountain, you just have so much going on in your head, especially when they turn the lights out.

I live down the hill from Oak Glen in Redlands, and I prefer the frozen Sarah Lee pies :innocent:.
Too many apples in the Oak Glen pies, I feel like I'm eating straight apples with a little bit of dry crust.

I went to Julian today. Wanted to try the Mom's pie but the lineup was huge. At the end, settled for JPC inside Julian. Still some lineup, but not nearly as bad as Mom's. :)

Oak Glen is my favorite. Laws has some very good pie but I get my apples at Snowline. And snowline has apple doughnuts.
Oak Glen for plain apple(the French crumb is too sweet) but Julian has a boysenberry apple mix that's pretty darn good but its also very sweet.
To be honest I like Oak Glen's cherry pie the best from the place that has the petting zoo.
