Ruth and I have been doing most of our errands by bike lately. So now we wanted more room.
So I finally got a 2nd pannier.
My first one is a very simple one which I like for light/dry commuting and light shopping. It's a Detours Teeco. One key reason for getting this one, is that it works well with the Bike Friday Tikit front rack (The Tikit is on my future purchase list ;) )
My 2nd one is an Ortlieb Bike Shopper. This one is a little bigger, and is waterproof (including waterproof zipper). I use this for heavier/wet commuting and shopping.
For shopping, I will usually take both panniers.
Anyway, here is an example of a typical shopping trip. We hit Trader Joes and Safeway, and the time was around the same or less than by car.

Kettle chips!....Yum yum...
I need to get one of those baby trailers for my bike for shopping.
Where do the HEED powder and NUUN tablets fit?
Time for an Xtracycle.

Pfft, I can carry a lot more than that between my backpack and a couple of shoulder bags hanging from the handlebars. :p
(Luckily I don't have to go very far that way :innocent:)
Looking forward to get my new bike put together so that I have one I actually want to put a rack onto. :thumb:
One rack and two panniers?
Wake me when you have two racks, four panniers, a trunk bag, and a large handlebar bag.
And a backpack/large messenger bag.
:P

That's pretty awesome. I need to get one (or two) rack on my to-be-built commute/utility bike. A basket in front of the handlebar would be oh-so-retro-cool.
Very cool. Do you have any pictures of everything mounted on your bike?

Anyway, yeah the top of the rack was not utilized nor a backpack. It's nice not having a sweaty back after a quick ride.
Plus, we could have fit a bit more in the bags. :p
It's turned into a pissing contest. Brilliant.

:thumb:You know, with some engineering, you could probably fit about ten or twelve panniers on that tandem if you rode it alone... ;)

Now this is what I call panniersAdd a trailer (one wheel or two) to the bike I envisioned above, and it'd give an Xtracycle a run for its money. :)

That could almost hold my cereal requirements for a couple of days.

Haha... yeah notice we got the big bag of generic brand Cheerios. :)
Haha... yeah notice we got the big bag of generic brand Cheerios. :)That's some terribly odd art on the package. The giant, stoned bee with no stinger is rather pleased that the slightly insane bear has stolen and is eating his honey.

I have a 3-rail Cetma rack. It's hard to mount and use on a small frame bike with drop handlebars. I'm going to figure out a way to mount a front rack and use the folding wire baskets I got when I had my Schwinn Super Sport.
I have a 3-rail Cetma rack. It's hard to mount and use on a small frame bike with drop handlebars.I can kind of see it being tough to mount on a small frame, but I wouldn't think the drop bars would be part of the equation, especially for the narrow three rail model. Is it the goofy Shimano shifter cable routing that gets in the way?

goofy Shimano shifter cable routing (that) gets in the way
correct.
This one never gets old...
http://www.zaftig.net/images/bike/xtracycle.jpg
correct. It's all a ruse. Now DA 7900 has sane cable routing.
STI until now = New Coke.
STI 2009+ = Coke Classic!
(Then again, my solution was zip ties.)

The drops get in the way of any wide packages or boxes you'd want to carry.
The grocery bag sized folding wire baskets are better for me anyway.
Anyone want a 3 rail Cetma rack?

Nice!
Still like the panniers though.
Braver than I! I'd be freaked out having stuff hanging from the handlebars.
