Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - $2.50 9 LED Flashlight.

Hello all. My dad brought me 2 of these flashlights from Advance Auto Parts. They run off of 3 AAAs, and have 9 LEDs. He said that they were only $2.50 a piece, which surprised me due to the light they emit. They're pretty light weight and under 4" long. The finish and knurling doesn't feel as nice as a higher end flashlight and I'm sure they couldn't hold a candle (pardon the pun) to a Fenix setup, but they do have a much nicer beam than my small Cateye. I'm thinking about ordering a set of lockblocks to try these things on my bike. If they can hold up on the streets, they may be a decent low cost setup for commuting or night jaunts around town.

Aprox what diameter is the body of the flashlight?

The skinny section is 25mm and the wider portion is 27mm.

I'll try to get some shots of them in action tonight.

I've got something similar from costco. 4-pack of 9LED 3xAAA flash light.

IMO, they're good for around the house and for being seen at night.

My company gave out some similar lights earlier this year, and I agree, they work ok for being seen, and low speed neighborhood rides. I have 3 on my bars, 2 pointed low, one high, and as long as I'm only going about 12mph I can see whats going on. I did just order 2 of the Romisen Cree lights for longer rides out side of the neighborhood.

+1, that's what i thought of when seeing the first post.

awesome for the money, but aren't good enough for fast rides. they are better than the typical $10-20 bicycle-specific LED headlights though.

Bought it myself. Big problem is that it didn't last a week. It can't take a shock, it seems. Bright light while it lasted, though.

Yeah, like kts just said. I bought a couple to have in the family cars for emergencies. Don't drop them. Don't expect the power button to hold up to multiple cycles, where "multiple" is under the lifetime of the battery. Consider it a demonstration of how cheap a manufacturer can get with a product and still manage to get sales. Don't expect me to waste my money on another one. Quality has a quantity all its own.

I bought two of these.
I put one on each side of a bicycle basket, secured with zip-ties.

First, the batteries that came with them are no good.

I put in new Alkaline AAA's , and they work fine.

Then the batteries ran out.

It seems like I can only get three hours of run time on a set of batteries.

The whisk broom is to clear broken glass from the "Bike Lane". Sometimes it's easier to whisk away the glass than to fix a flat tire. I ride the same route everyday, so if I sweep it today, I don't get a flat tomorrow.
The way the broom is positioned also keeps glass from sticking to my front tire.

I appointed myself "Course Marshall", since no one else was doing the job.

Also note the red flag on the floor in front of the bike. That one item commands a lot of respect. I use the flag instead of hand signals.

i saw some of those lights at the fleamarket in the cheap knock-off section with the chinamen sporting bluetooth headset. they were a dollar i think (everything is a dollar). i thought about getting a pair for the enclosures but i opted for the $2 mil spec push to test aircraft indicator switch i spotted earlier.

I bought one, they are good for visibility but limited as a light. You are right the batteries that came with them were duds and dont work. I had to mount it rather high on my handle bars so it could clear my front basket.

I use a dynamo with a 3 watt lamp which is mounted on the front forks and it gives me adequate illumination.

ok hotbike....why do you have a broom on your bike?I was going to get one of those for my bike. Riding through the same glass every day just seems stupid. There is one spot on my commute where there is a broken car mirror in the middle of the street, I'd still like to know the story behind that.


i thought about getting a pair for the enclosures

I have one, but the enclosure on mine seems to be a lot heavier than the one pictured in the OP. I was thinking it would make a good enclosure for diy projects.
