Just bought a hybrid (specialized crosstrail) last month. It was a while since I was on a bike, now I have caught the bug. I am looking aorund for a road bike. Considering several: Cannondale Synapse 5, Jamis Ventura Comp, Specialized Allez, Trek 2.1. I realize I should take them for a ride, which I will, but given that fit will be determined by my test ride, any other opinions on these? My top price range would be aorund $1,200.

Very well equipped for the price at which they go (in your price range). I love my F85.

My riding is more utilitarian or functional. I have a touring bike and I go shopping with it along with going on trips. I'd recommend you look into the Trek Portland - disk brakes, fenders; you can put on a rear rack. Something you can go shopping with in the rain and still do a century on a nice day. Or some credit card touring.

Welcome!
