Just a couple quick questions.

How often should I have to adjust my headset when using a carbon steerer, compression plug/cap set up? I recently purchased my Ouzo Pro (what a great ride, I love it!!!) and after a couple of rides, I re-checked and adjusted my headset as it had come loose. Is this an inherent trait with compression caps or was it the usual set it up take it out for a ride, re-adjust it and it should be fine for a long time scenario? I'm thinking/hoping it is the later.

I was careful during the installation and even used my torque wrench (for being a typical guy I actually read the instructions) so hopefully it's not me... :o

I also apologize for posting this here and not in the mechanics forum, I know there are several guys who have the same fork and regularly post in the road forum so I'm looking for their opinion.

Thanks.

Shane

I remember my mechanic saying that he had to try several different compression plugs before he found one that worked well with his fork. This was fortunate for me because I had ordered the same fork he had so was able to take advantage of his lessons learned of trial-and-error. Curiously enough, although it has no brand label imprinted on it, it does look suspiciously enough like the Reynolds compression plug.

I had similar trouble for the first 500 miles,. But now the headset is adjustment free.

points to consider/check:

1) Make sure the top clamp bolt of the stem is BELOW the topthe steerer. If not there will be a differential clamp force which distorts the steerer tube and gives you a false impression of tightness.

2) make sure that tehre is no grease on the o-ringof the plug.

3) you can tighten the compression plug quite a lot since it place the steer tube material under tension (as designed).
