Texas - Help plan a route from College Station to Houston

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
A buddy from high school and I are looking to ride our bikes to our parents' houses in NE Houston. He currently lives in Austin, would be riding through Bryan/College Station (BCS) to pick me up, and we would be heading to the Kingwood/Humble/Atascosita area. I *think* he has a route planned to get from Austin to BCS, but we're looking for input for the BCS to Houston part.
My "car" route from BCS to Kingwood is 6 to 105 to 2854 to 336 to 1314 to 59 to Home. We're wondering if there is a more bike friendly route than the one I just listed. Has anyone made the trip from BCS to Houston by bike, and if so, what is your preferred route? Or if you just happen to know a few good roads between here and there, feel free to point them out.
Thanks,
Mac

Check this route. http://tinyurl.com/bcs-kingwood
105 is not what I would call bike-friendly, although there are worse roads. I have seen some bikers out on the western section (before it widens out east of Plantersville).

Here's a more straightforward variation incorporating last post comments about west end of 105. It also avoids conroe. http://tinyurl.com/bcs-kingwood2

If you want to bypass Conroe and stay off major roads...
Take 30 eastward out of BCS to Carlos. Turn southward on 244 to intersection with 90. Turn left toward Anderson. In Anderson, take 149 eastward toward Richard. Continue on 149 through Richard to Hidden Forest Road. Turn left on FS 224 (Lake Mount Pleasent Rd). Continue on Lake Mt. Pleasent to 1097. Turn left on 1097 toward Willis. In Willis, go south 4 blocks to County Line Rd. Turn east on County Line. Go about 4 more blocks and vier right onto 2432 (Willis-Waukegan Rd). Go sotheastward on to 105. Continue across 105 (name changes to Waukegan Rd). Continue on Waukegan Rd to FM 1485. Turn left toward New Caney. In New Caney go south on Loop 494 to Kingwood.
Check this route on Mapmyride.com or similar.
I have biked most of this route at one time or another. These are good roads. Not heavily traveled. These are some of the most scenic roads in SE Texas.
