P.S.: The Percy model is built atop an LGB Staniz 0-4-0 model. Only other LGB unit I have here is a 2090 converted to Ernest The Engine Cart (of the not-too-child-friendly Aussie parody - I used this unit to satirize the Aussie parody. That make sense? :twitchy:):

too funny you boys will be boys.... but that was one of my favorite things about having little ones... I could watch thomas the tank engine all the time.... those days are gone...at least for now give me 10 years and I will have grandkids... I hope it is that long at least... hehehehe

I was having the same memories and should be on about the same time-line for grandkids! :)

At one time my daughter had the coolest Thomas the Tank Engine set that must have been G-Scale. Thomas was battery operated. It went to who knows where at the Church Yard Sale one year. Oh well, I probably brought home a Collegiate from the same sale. :o

Dr. D, is that a guy in a clerical collar standing near the sporty looking red brick building as the train ascends the first grade (about 33 seconds in)? ;)

He was home sick last week with a stomach bug and actually watched the show for the first time in a long while (he's in 1st grade). Rent the Thomas movie some time if you want to experience a trippy experience without the drugs.

I can also remember that when my daughter discovered barbie.com, I thought of it as Barbie.coma as watching her tool around that website was extremely sleep inducing. Good thing that now at age 10 she's much more facile than I am with finding her way around a website.

Season 1 and 2 (1984 & 1986 series, respectively) fans cannot sympathize with you more on the subject of the later episodes (Britt Allcroft began disposing of the Reverend W. Awdry's stories in 1991, while HiT Entertainment has been the wrecking crew from Season-8 onwards). Thomas & The Magic Railroad particularly hits a sour nerve with us, as it did you. Another Alcroft-written disaster.

The beauty of Rev. Wilbert Awdry's stories is that they were intensely skewed towards railway realism and quality writing. Most stories were almost always based on some factual railroad incident. Allcroft helped turn it into a kid's magic zone, while HiT generalized every story into generic, poorly-written plotlines with repetitive catchphrases, e.g.: "Confusion and Delay," "Really Useful Engine," "...as fast as he could," et. cetera. The two last American narrators did not help to improve this childish aspect in either respect (though it fares little better with England's Michael Angelis).

My son, now almost 20, was obsessed with Thomas as a young child. He had the train thing real bad. The only remnant of this is that we have saved his rather large Brio train stuff for use by future grandchildren.

SNAP! Parrallel develoment on both sides of the Atlantic! My eldest is 23, same experience, same fascination - and another huge crate of expensively-purchased Brio awaiting HIS offspring!

It was definately odd seing George Carlin and Ringo Starr in a kid's show, having known about their past exploits. I never really paid attention to the story lines, my son just watched it for the trains.

Dr. D, you have it bad. But alas, my child and I were riding behind a full scale Thomas just last Saturday.

Caught just enough of them to form an opinion and learn to quickly change the channel. Not that the "modern" cartoons were all winners. Cat-dog and Pete-Pete & Pete were as bad as anything since the Banana Splits or H.R. Puffenstuff (sorry Dr. D :p :D).

-KurtOh,yeah.... The Ringo series. We've got the Ertl stuff, kept the cards, the whole deal. Not interested at all in the Baldwin stuff.

Before I got into C&V? Cars, then motorcycles. Worked two years to make a 1981 42" Lowe's mower actually cut grass at 14mph. Flame paint job, halogen bulbs...You could cut grass at 14mph, you just couldn't turn.

heheheheheheya but with only 5 years difference in age how was I to know aht was to come as they grew... it was all easy way back then ... just pop in thomas and life was good. Actually my son is a very easy child to raise or at least has been up till now. My oldest on the other hand well if I knew then what I know now I would have contemplated the throw back option. hehehehehe

I've thought about taking him to Nebraska and dropping him off....
