Hi all,

I've recently chopped the bars on an old racing bike and flipped them to make bullhorns. In order to finish the job, I bought a pair of TT levers to use instead of the old brakes.

After fitting the levers and changing to MTB cables (the ends are round, not mushroom) I've got a major problem: The cable housing is pulled through the bottom of the levers, making the brakes useless!

Here's a pic of what happens when I apply the brake:

and of the resulting effect on the housing:

It's almost like the cables are too narrow for the brakes, abut they're just standard brake cable bought new from a reputable bike shop.

Any ideas????

Two things...

1. You should be using a ferrule on the end of your housing.

and, more importantly,

2. I believe those levers have a cable stop that is supposed to go into the hole that the cable passes through that you seem to be missing.

Here is a good source for info on cutting cable housings and finishing them. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cables.html

there should be a cable stop there like a adjustment barrel so the housing doesn't do what it has done here.

Thanks for the quick responses- I've been through Sheldon's fantastic guides previously, thanks.

It was just the ferrules I was missing - found them in the bottom of the packing for the new cables and they've solved the issue.

Cheers guys
