I'm in the middle of building up another fixie (nearly done actually) and I have a chain question.

I bought a SRAM PC-7X chain, but I don't know whether I should use the master link that comes with the chain.

I've never used one before on a fixed gear since a few years ago I scored a half-dozen Izumi chains at a very, very low price. Now that I've only got one left, I'm saving it for my best bike.

I'm inclined not to use it, just because it looks too much like a weak link especially when backpressure's being applied to the drivetrain. But, I'm tempted by the siren call of being able to easily remove the chain for cleaning.

So, do I use it or not?

P.S. I know there's another thread about this same chain below, but it's doesn't answer this specific question

I have a SRAM chain with the same master link. I've had not problems with it. Not to say that there won't be any, but it's been good to me. I skid on occasion and backpeddle the rest of the time. My concern with it isn't so much in clicking it shut and calling it a day, it's in taking it apart time and time agian and potentially wearing out either the side plate that's designed to flex, or the special hole that holds the whole shebang together.
