I need something that will cover my jaw if I were to take a tumble again. It's now wired shut, and I think that I should do everything possible to protect it while it's broken. Short of a motorcycle or mountain biking helmet, do you guys know of anything I could do??

Not fall, maybe lay off the bike(EEKKK, NO!!). Short of a full face helmet, i don't think there is much else out there to provide protection...

I think full face is the only way to go on this kind of injury.

I second the fullface. If you only need it temporarily maybe go for the Giro Switchblade with the removable chinguard. It's still kinda pricey though.

Ditto on the jaw thing. Mine may never be right. I'm considering this Six-Six-One full comp face helmet but it only has i think....15 vents and ranks as HOT and Heavy. Anyone know of a lighter, better venting helmet that this one??

You could get a Troy Lee D2 Carbon Fiber helmet. Very light as far as full face helmets are concerned. Only $425.00!

You could use it until your jaw heals and then give it to me!

Seriously, I've used a Bell Rhythm that are available for about $40 on-line closeout deals.

Feh! Beat me to it. I was about to work that angle. ;)

Full face helmet -- and talk to your doc about this one first. I'm no expert on broken jaws, but hitting even a small bump when riding can't do it much good.

hmmm... Along with the jaw are some neck problems. The current helmet weights about 11oz. I'm not sure how long I could ride with a 2.5lb weight on my head.

But then...How much does it cost to wire a jaw? ...it'd be penny-wise and pound foolish not to at least consider one. .
