HELP!!!
I am looking for a Campy 9/10 compatible cassette, made for riding serious mountains, on a double. A 13-32 would serve me quite well. Don't want to go to a triple on this particular bike, I have a touring bike with the triple.

You might be able to respace a shimano mtn cassette.

Your only Campy compatible solution is a compact 34/50 crankset. The aluminium version from FSA with a new BB is $200. You need the BB because they don't make a square taper BB version. The largest cassette for a 10 speed is a 29 (which is supposed to require the medium cage rear deraillieur.) I think the 9 speed max is 26.

Why don't you try a Campy Veloce 13-29 cassette? With a 39 chainring that will take you over most mountains.

I may have neglected to mention it's a Campy 10 speed. My current thought is to build a wheel on a Shimano compatible hub, purchase the cogs I want, and a set of spacers for Campy 10. I think the thickness of the cogs is consistent between 8, 9 and 10 speed, with the difference being in the spacers.
Has anybody tried this kind of hairbrained scheme?

That's exactly what I have on my bike, so that definitely can be done.

On 10 speed systems, you will need to purchase either a Campy cassette or a remanufactured aftermarket unit, like a Wheels, American Classic or Mavic. The spacing is NOT the only difference, the cogs are thinner too. That is why you need a different chain. If you are looking for exceptionally low gearing, you may be SOL with 10 speed stuff until it gains a bigger foothold in the marketplace.
