Classic & Vintage - Info On Older Sach Gear Hubs?

There seem to be a number of web sites which are devoted to Sturmey Archer and their history, including technical information.

Do any members have links to similar sites for Sachs gear hub info? Per my understanding Sachs started making gear hubs in 1904 so have been doing so almost as long as Sturmey Archer. I am looking for a site which lists models, gear ratios etc. for the older Sachs gear hubs.

It seems that all of the English language historic gear hub sites concentrate on S-A. I would presume this is due to their more common use and distribution in English language speaking countries. Sales of German, Austrian and Dutch bikes with Sachs hubs never approached the sales of English bikes here.

I overhauled both SA and Sachs hubs (3 speed).

One major difference is Sachs having 3 planets where SA has 4. Both hubs are very similar. Sachs is straightforward and easy to reassemble. So, If you are able to service SA, Sach would not be a problem.

Poke around the Sram site. They bought out Sachs, and last I looked they still had manuals up for some of the more recent Sachs hubs. I had a Sachs 7 spd that was on there for instance.

I had an older Sachs Torpedo coaster brake 3-speed rear hub, and did some "unscientific" testing for ratios. What I got was:
1st gear - one cog revolution produced .8 wheel revolutions
2nd gear - one cog revolution produced .9 wheel revolutions
3rd gear - one cog revolution produced 1.3 wheel revolutions
That old hub is gone. However, I purchased another one of these hubs off of e-bay. I had it laced to a 26inch Mavic rim for a furture project. The hub came with a little booklet with maintenance instructions, exploded view, and ratio info. If you send me your address, I'll see if I can find it and I'll send it to you.

Thanks for the links but my knowledge of German is minimal and translation programs I have tried usually garble technical terms beyond comprehension.:cry:

They do look interesting however.

There is a chapter in the Glenn's Complete Bicycle Manual book for overhauling rear wheel hubs. A number of 3-speed hub types listed (SA AW, SA TCW III, Styre, Brampton, Hercules, Shimano 3.3.3 FA), but Sachs isn't among them. Has step-by-step instructions using photos for each type.
