Classic & Vintage - NOS 1990 Tommasini Super Prestige what to do?

I bought new it in 1990, rode it a few months, and it has been in the attic ever since. The Dura Ace 7 speed stuff for the bike is long gone, I would need new everthing to build it up. What to do? All my current bikes are Shimano 10 speed.

1. Keep it in the attic for another 10 years or so
2. Build it up for fun...but I have great road bike, and 2 back up road bikes I almost never ride
3. Sell the frame and fork

I'm a ex racer and hard core rider, not a collector, and don't need the cash.

Build it up and give it to a friend or family member. Or trade it for something exciting that you want but would never buy for yourself (or sell it and use the cash for same).

The point is, it's not doing anybody any good sitting in your attic.

I say you give it me, JK. If you want to sell it let me know.

sell it to a roadie that rides C&V cycles . then you know it will go to´a good home , if you used it a few months and your not interested in it and you not a collector , get rid of it its basically just a door stop for you now . or do you have some love for it ?

My '88 Tommasini is restored w/all period-correct parts. I ride it on sunny days; any time I want to take a 20 to 50 mile ride in the summer, that's the bike I reach for.

My old Univega is my commuter. After restoring it, I sold the 2006 Trek touring bike that I had been previously commuting on. It was a fine bike, but the Univega is more "interesting."

My old Stumpjumper (currently a project) will be my bad-weather commuter.

I'd like another old steel bike (preferably another Tommasini) to put modern components on.

I would keep it and ride it. There would be no reselling that baby. I love steel! I've ridden them all and just love the way steel rides. Everyone rides new Treks and Cannondales (not that there's anything wrong with that), not everyone rides vintage steel. To have a guy with his new $5,000 carbon bike slide next to you and say "Hey, nice bike!" does have a kind of cool factor.

Dudes, a fixie just means that the cog is fixed, not that the bike will be messed up. My fixie and most others are easily restored if desired.

All the other stuff is just people being dumb-asses, riders of all stripes are capable of that.

Fixie usually means some hippie youth goth-type environmental whacko long haired coffee house dope smokin' dude sawed off the derailleur hanger, changed out cranks, sawed off all braze-ons, and switched out bars.

So after all that work ruining a bike they have the same type of bike I rode when I was 8 years old.

And after all that they actually feel like they accomplished something.

Fixie-junkies should be banned from the C&V forums. Banish them to whacko-land :)

Durham, NC Habitat 100. Well-organized and supported century ride. Many Vintage Bike guys and gals. Riding "steel bikes from a few years ago" because that's what they ride. Eddie's, Lotus, Vitus, Trek 520, Ironman, some Schwinns, a Specialized steel. Some folks drive '67 Camaros, some '97. A matter of taste. I guess.

Would love to see pics, maybe find that frame/fork a new set of clothes and a lease on life, ridden.

Fixie = hipster trashed
Fixed gear = bike with a fixed cog

we all have our place in the cycling world .I just cant seem to move on from the mid 80's . i ride all my bikes and almost each one everyday . all steel and none with less than a 5 speed :)

Fixed is fine geared is fine as long as the person doesnt CHOP off vital parts on a frame to "look Cool " or repaint BRIGHT Yellowish green" because it had a few scratches on the paint .

IMO if you must repaint , repaint it in the exact color scheme or find the frame with the Exact paint your looking for.

anyway just my opinion .

for the cool factor, : I don't care too much about any "cool" factor, I just like what I like and I am what I am, doesn't matter to me if it's cool or not.


do you buy them to resell, : Sometimes that's a part of it, but not a primary factor.


or are people buying them to collect? : Probably, but mostly I just get what I like or what I find interesting.

Very unlikely that I would sell it, but thanks for the interest. : Probably nice to know that there are people interested in it if you ever do decide to get rid of it, or if you ever decide to fix it up. Vintage bikes also make for great loaner bikes when you have friends or relatives over.

I just like the ride of a steel bike, cool factor? no, more like the Fred Factor (if you belive the road
forum guys).
I think that we (C&V guys) have an appreciation for the build on these older bikes, like the
aesthetic and the look. That said I don't think we are total Luddites, you'll find many of
our old frames built with modern components.
I personally don't buy bikes to resell them, but many of us do.

OK, guys and gals, I'm going to try and find a new BB and headset and build it up with some left over 9 speed stuff. I'll post some photos of the frame and the bike once done. I found a Cinelli stem and bars for the bike, but the stem is stained....hopefully simi-chrome can rescue it.

I've found the old DA brake levers, so I'm thinking down tube shifters (since I haven't got around to "Drew-ing" them off the frame...LOL) will help with the vintage look.

I like gears, I cannot lie....no skinney single speeds for me

Yeah I agree. I was very fortunate to have found mine, which was in mint or near mint condition when I bought it seven years ago. It was completely original and the most beautiful bike I ever saw. Like 'bengeboy' I have since converted it to period correct 1991 Campy Record/Chorus, and is my most cherished bike.

I love Tommasinis, they are beautiful :D

I still want pics of the Tommi. They're pretty, I think they straddle the line of flamboyant and super gay in a way that perfectly suits cycling. Like Adam Craig and most other pro cyclists I strive for just the right amount of ****-eroticism in my bike style, and Tommisinni's have got it nailed in my opinion.
