We are touring Ireland for 10 days in May and need to find a hotel that is willing to store our bike cases for that period and/or is bicycle friendly. Any ideas?? TIA

when I visited ireland with my family, we stayed in bed and breakfast houses. there seems to be a ton of them. You get a pretty nice room, depending on the house, breakfast, and bit more of the ireland "experience".

Agreed, have toured there before and really enjoyed the B+B's, but the original post probably wasn't clear enough...what we are looking for is a good hotel in Cork City for the first and last days of the tour that would store our bike cases (I'm doing the tour w/ KLMSanta...)

I think the chances are slim to find anyone on the forum who personally knows a business owner in Cork.
I'd recommend searching the Irish/UK version of Yahoo or Google, and getting a list of hotels, B&Bs, and bike shops in Cork and then call and ask them. Start off by offering $, and I bet you'll find a place to store the boxes for free (included with your room fee)

Actually, I can warmly recommend the Auburn House B+B in Cork. We had a bunch of people (24 or so) staying there years ago, and they were reasonably priced, the rooms were ok and the people running the business were great. It was a 2-generation family thing, I believe the parents were running the Auburn house, and their daughter's family another B+B just 100m down the road. Our group was split between the two places. We exchanged several letters, Christmas cards etc. years after our visit.

I know they are not a hotel. But feel free to PM me if you want details and their contact info. I will need a couple of days to dig those up from my old Mac.

Thanks very much, actually a B+B would be fine and the place sounds great...and there are only two of us going, so I'll give them a call and see if they can accomodate us. I was able to find contact info at http://www.bedandbreakfastireland.net/Tables_Cork.htm

You will be much better off going with B+Bs. There are many in or around downtown and most are moderatly priced. I grew up in Cork and the only hotels that spring to mind are mostly higher priced. Duries hotel is near downtown but is a 5 star hotel with the accompanying prices.

Only way to find out would be to telephone and ask. I don't see why it would be a problem unless there were space issues. However if you said your staying depended on them bing able to store the boxes I don't think they will turn your business down. Where are you going in Cork?

Contact a good cycling club in Cork and they'll probably do the leg work for you.

http://www.irishcycling.com might yeild some results.

Thanks much for the excellent recommendation, we stayed at the Auburn House on our first and last nights, enjoyed it, and the owners were very helpful with the bike boxes, taxis, phone calls, etc.....and had great luck on our tour in general, only one hour of (light) rain riding in 10 days, even got a sunburn in Ireland...
