So I've been trying to get the parts together to build my own sidebox on the xtracycle and can't get the conduit right for the life of me. I've tried 1/2 EMT and it was way too small, I just exchanged it for 3/4 which is slightly to big. Is there even such thing as 5/8?

Does anyone have an answer to the conduit sizing for this??

spambait, thanks for the link, can you show me exactly where the specs are for the pipe that I'll insert into the X? I couldn't find it in all the info there. Sorry!

Hmm.. Just went to measure the thing. Sorry to get all metric on you, but here's what I found:

- the tubing for the rack itself seems to be 22.2mm OD
- the hole/slot in the Free Rad that holds the tubing is 23mm ID

This seems to suggest that 7/8 OD is the right size, so I don't know why 3/4 does not fit. Bear in mind my Free Rad is from early 2001 so things might have changed.

Just found Xtracycle's official word:
http://xtracycle.com/longtailtech/index.php/Size_of_tubing

"Size of tubing

The H-Rack and V-Rack mounting tubes are made from 25.4mm OD steel tube with a 1mm wall thickness."

unfortunately, the piece i bought was interior diameter and I guess the thing with this sort of piping is that you can't predict the outer diameter because they are different widths. Where would one go to get a outer diameter piece like that?

Here's a site where you can buy tubing:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/mepages/4130tubing_un1.php
(http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/mepages/4130tubing_un1.php)

You're most likely looking at 7/8 OD with .035 or .049 thickness at $3.45 or $3/ft.
